theres no need for the vandalism, spread the love, youve got an amazing free night out of this building, why not spend an hour in the morning cleaning the place up… itll work wonders!

yeah .. for 10+ hours of self endulgence and enjoyment isn’t that the least we should do?

    spot on brother 😀

hopefully the cleaning will be contagious, if we start cleaning up the place then others will feel out of place. then 3,2,1, bang. we have a reusable spot, and the police will be less inclined to shut it down / take unnecessary measures if were kissing the ground we walk on!

about 5 years ago this party happened at a old building in South Oxfordshire (just outside Reading), some mates of mine organised it. They cleared up all the rubbish and put it in bags outside the venue.

As the party was finishing, some janitor dude turned up from the local Council, along with the cops. The janitor looked at these bags, and scratched his head as they weren’t the local issue trash bags. He then went inside, came out and said “well you lot left the place cleaner than it was when it first went empty!”, and told the cops to stand down as everyone was leaving peacefully, there had been no excessive damage and therefore they were not required… raaa

    im loving that
    absolutely loving it
prime example of what can be done

i am now a very happy bean :bounce_fl:group_hugraaa

That’s fucking brilliant, that’s how it should be. As people are saying; why would you smash up some place that you’ve been given the opportunity to have a free party there?

    The mind boggles :hopeless:

stop vandalising your brain at parties

some people think they are ‘radge’ (mental) and that by smashing stuff up they are making a statement against authority and ‘the system’.
a-‘there’s no rules and no pigs to stop me, i’m fucking mental and i can do what the fuck i like!’-mentality.
if they are ‘compus mentus’ it shows that they have a childish and slightly retarded veiw of the world.
if they are out of control and get carried away in the heat of the moment then it shows they just can’t control themselves and should stay straight and sober all the time so as not embarrass themselves in front of decent folks.
smashing stuff up is an cowardly expression of violence and anger. i thought that had no place in the party scene values. people like that should be shunned.
if they had any balls and if they were really radge they would go to the nearest police station, smash the windows and fight with all coppers that came out. but of course they are not really mental. they are just indulging in childish fantasys and reinforcing their own deluded self image.

they’ve done that here in Eastern England already. Of course they lost, but it made national and international news, caused a debate in Parliament, a bigger clampdown in this area and it means that parties are even harder still to put on now.

graffiti shouldnt matter because parties should only be in abandoned buildings. If a building is up for letting on the market it shouldnt be used for a party because it has a cost to society. The point of squat parties is they are recycling old buildings and hurt nobody. Using an owned building is also damaging the squat party scene by giving the police more incentive to intervene.

hmm i disagree, for our own sake… if the police happen to turn up and see people graffitiing everywhere they are liable to relate this to graffiti going on in towns, then blame us for it, and then link raves to that too! giving an even more negative impact on the scene..

what Iacchus says really only applies to London, and only certain parts of it which are / were undergoing major redevelopment.

There are a lot of warehouses dating back from the 1940s/50s particularly in the vicinity of the Thames, Lea and Grand Union Canal, which aren’t suitable for modern business/industry and are in a state of dereliction, so neither the landowners nor the Met care too much what happens to them.

However I’ve seen London crews make the mistake of partying a “between lets” building – within about an hour 16 metpol TSG (riot van) units turned up and cleared everyone out. They didn’t have to use major force or riot gear/shields, just the sheer number of cops; it was like something out of a American movie!

in the provinces, unfortunately it has become common for empty but between lets buildings to be targeted, and trashing these is definitely stupid. it does appear in some areas that some estate managers actually sacrifice the oldest buildings its still pointless to vandalise them as it makes it harder for the next crews.

anyway, especially with the credit crunch there often isn’t such a thing as an “abandoned building”. If its still standing and can be used for anything some attempt will be made to sell it – if not it is knocked down very quickly so the land can be re-used. There is a lot more security on any void (empty) building these days and it will actually get harsher rather than better with the recession as estate owners aren’t daft and realise that if ravers don’t rinse the buildings others will for metal and materials, so even if a building is destined to be knocked down the demolition contractors want it secured so they can get the tat…

Anyway land and buildings are still expensive and in demand particularly in East Anglia as its near a lot of transport routes, plus most industrial units here are way too near to residential areas, many being built in the times when fewer people had cars and they used to walk or cycle to their place of work…
