What the fuck is happening this year?

    I can see the old bills reasoning when you read this;

“Last year, however, there were 73 arrests, 244 people were given formal warnings for cannabis possession and eight were given penalty notices for urinating in public.

“In total there were more than 400 prosecutions. This raises issues under the Licensing Act of 2003 and therefore we made an appeal for further consideration of the legal position by the licensing magistrates’ court.”

although I still dont think they should be allowed to have that kind of power over events.

at least it wasnt 244 formal warnings for fighting?

i wonder if the 73 were cannabis dealing?

    what a pile of shit

shame – I had a great time last year

at least it wasn’t 244 for firearms offences, but still, you can see from a rozzer point of view why they would want to stop it. Its just up to society to make it clear that is not their choice, even if there is criminal activity. Hell they dont shut down hackney do they…

they did flood some part of North/East London with 600 cops to close down dodgy shops were re-selling electronic items obtained in muggings…

its worth also viewing this in context. Similar events all across East Anglia have been blighted by outbreaks of serious violence when the event finished – usually between young lads and far from drugs calming them down they are getting more angry. Perhaps crap drugs is one reason but WTF happened to self-control?

was so sad when i heard about this! was vexed i missed last years and now looks like i may never get to go!

apparently loads of people are just gonna turn up anyway as a protest. think the cops may have shot themselves in the foot really. cant remember where i read it tho..

ahh I can’t anymore, going to that woodland party that weekend now!
it makes sense though, they need to be shown they can’t bully little festivals

if people didn’t bully each other we’d still have it this festival.

it wasn’t just cops overreacting about drugs but a problem with outbreaks of anti-social and violent behaviour happening as far apart as Luton, Aldeburgh and Brandon. Even when I lived in Reading and was a steward for the Guildford Ambient Picnic and also the Come Together festival in South Oxfordshire there was a problem with small groups of mostly younger people fighting as the events draw to a close.

the injuries sustained aren’t life threatening but enough to require the Ambulance Service and other NHS staff to patch people up at the public’s expense. its because of petty stuff like this rather than major conspiracies that festivals get cancelled in this country.

it is a shame decent well behaved folk miss out on their events, but perhaps the organisers should do more to get their security to work with cops and refuse entry to known troublemakers…

ive never been to strawberry fair, but isnt it like nottinghill or st pauls? so not a sealed festival? pretty much impossible to keep the trouble makers away id have thought…

not sure its a conspiracy, but more festivals are reporting that the police are becoming more and more difficult to work with, making them jump through hoops and then seemingly purposefly (sp?) replying late with any objections they have meaning the organisers dont have enough time to reply or try and negotiate with them. seems like a lot of forces have a bit of chip on their shoulder about something.

metpol actually don’t do that badly keeping the troublemakers out of notting hill carnival, especially considering the racial issues etc. its very costly though to the taxpayer and requires a lot of CCTV watching and CID resources…

Legal festivals were hard to put on in the mid 1990s, it was only a remnant of Blair’s “cool britannia” they were begrudgingly tolerated during better economic times (and the other costs of them overlooked) to keep the youth quiet..

one issue is other big UK commercial festivals don’t whinge about deploying sniffer dogs and CCTV and pass the costs onto their mug punters (who still pay them!) Another is posts on facebook and forums “I went to ***** (legal) festival and got really fucked on (lists of various drugs)” which counts as evidence there is a drug problem at these events… drugs are illegal whether we like it or not!

another (which affects even the big commercial festivals) is there is a small but significant minority of people what behave like complete scum there.

A couple of years ago people were talking about the big festivals like V and global gathering and there was rum stuff happening like people just getting randomly punched, girls being sexually assaulted… some of these incidents (such as the beatings at V festival) certainly were reported to the cops.. also each reported theft from tents etc and anyone needing NHS treatment due to overdose/alcohol/heatstroke counts as a black mark for licensing….
