I think he’s worried cops will try and close it and it ends up with riot cops going in hard like has happened in East Anglia, although I suspect that they might instead let it happen and then nick people / rigs at the end of the event when they are sketchy and tired.

apparently last weekend there was also a major incident at an East london party where someone fell through a roof skylight and suffered fatal injuries despite the HEMS (Air Ambulance) and multiple LAS (London Ambulance Service) units attending.

And they still don’t appear to have solved the issue regarding gangs and robberies.

I’d still be tempted to go if I was nearer to London but for me today its not worth spending £35 simply to travel to something what might get locked off or where I’d have to look over my shoulder all the time…

loads of raves got locked off by riot cops from 2005-2007. Many made the news. I guess you are relatively young and may have missed all this.

Gangs and robberies at free parties are however very rare outside big cities and virtually unheard of in East Anglia (there have been thefts from cars) – but if trouble breaks out its usually due to jealousy over girls etc.

Theres 30 000 cops in London but TBH there isn’t much gain for the met to close the event unless something bad happens like another unfortunate falling through a roof. Even then they returned the sound systems (as these are only seized for CSI to get evidence from for the inquest etc).

By letting it happen the cops can also blame it on “budget cuts due to the student protests” – as the one sure-fire way to get money out of a Tory Government is to make them paranoid about “law and order”.

What I expect they will do is more searches and checks around it, and look for any of the youths who were involved in the protests and links to gangs, drugs and crime – this info will doubtless be leaked to the right-wing media though the usual channels.

TBH I’d be slightly more careful these days about trying to second-guess the Met – but they are still doing things “by the book” compared to 20 years ago and if you are smart there is no need to get caught up in any heavy stuff. That’s not happened in London since the days of Spiral Tribe in the 1990s and that happened because they tried to take on the Government whilst helping shift fuckloads of drugs.

Most of the rig owners aren’t as much into that sort of thing, aren’t as stubborn as EA and would rather pack up and keep their stacks if/when things go pear shaped.

I would however be prepared for such things as last minute relocations (Tip: many bits of London are closer together than they seem) – and suggest that those travelling any distance make sure they stay in touch with their friends should they get separated.
