I just think scum is attracting way to much attention and the wrong kind of people. Bigger will just mean more bottles being thrown, more media, more kids who dont know what the fuck they are doing (just have a look at the scum FB page). Scum are doing stuff way too often and in my humble opinion very badly.

Whilst I doubt that they will fuck things up too badly, the government are now looking to change the squatting laws and that was announced after scum.

i hear that! hopefully well see a new breed of more Conscientious scum in the new year!

Completely agree with you, mate. I’ve just been called a queer by one person, and a pussy by another, on the Facebook page for airing my views on the whole violence issue. Do we really want these amateurs (for want of a better word) going to squat parties and giving the wider public the impression that we are all like this?

Scum need to stop being selfish. They are fucking up the ‘scene’ they supposedly love.

edit: Another person posted this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrXFCJN6NWk&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

I mean, look at the username on YouTube, ‘smashu2fuk’. How nice! >_<

Lets just hope they leave it for a bit at the very least. Banning squatting would be a popular move and by god the government need to do something popular with all the cuts. Plus they weren’t exactly overly liberal last time they were in power RE raves (before my time mind!)

Exactly, man. The wider implications on squatting are pretty fucked up. I don’t know what’s going on in the Scum organisers’ heads… maybe they’re so deluded they think that, by putting on these parties and having tossers hurl stuff at the police, they are winning The Fight. : Just hope they stay under the radar for a while ‘cos I, for one, will not be very happy if the trouble-free psy parties I go to start getting treated by the police in the same way.

a lot of them kids don’t care (they are the sort who would have a stand up physical fight with their “friends”, or even their parents or their partner to the point of injury and/or getting arrested).

many go to a rave but deep down they think the people what risk their money and freedom to put them on are “boring geeks/nerds” – when the crews lose stacks or events get locked off they just go back to townie lifestyles, the only reason they like raves is there are no bouncers to stop them doing drugs or vandalising stuff or fighting.

its actually this reason why we have a strong nanny state insisting on licensing conditions. Look at how the urban music scene has developed for instance. People chose to make it more angry and combative than original UK garage and see the “beef” and events being locked off as part of the fun – and this is fucking up everywhere apart from psy-trance.

Whats worse is I think most of the psy trance lot are genuine squatters and many are foreigners as well and the govt wanted to target foreign squatters even during the election campaign.

I’ve heard though (from a travellers support place) that the govt are not yet planning to criminalise trespass its not a simple thing to do as it has human rights issues and is harder to enforce) so I expect what they will do is make people in squats have to be as quiet as mice and not invite friends round or risk being evicted through existing anti-social behaviour laws.

True words, General Lightning. It’s such a shame that these people get attracted to rave culture… There’s no real way of dealing with them though, other than to keep underground events more low-key, which Scum really aren’t doing a good job of with their seemingly militant attitude towards partying.

Yeah, I have a lot of friends in the psy scene who are 100% squatters. Hope what you say is true regarding the banning of squatting though. :

funniest thing ive read all day! classic!

some posts that ive read here and on facebook make out as if the scum orginisers want all this trouble! i can assure they do not!

idiots have been turning up at raves since time began! this hasnt just come about willy nilly! and dare i say it can even happen at nice fluffly psy trance parties!!!! uk tek this year things got very heated and that was in wales! christ i can remeber the riots in bristol city centre after ashton court, in loverly hippy bristol! mwhaha!

what you also have to understand wich doesnt quite come across that clearly, is that there are many soundsystems wich make up a scum party, these rigs come from all over the county, and the last thing they want is riots and violance!

it has allways been the general lay of the land that you have to be consious of where you are at london parties! you aint in cansas anymore treacle! and yes i understand the way scum is orginised will bring unwanted people, but lets hope thats it and now the lessons have been learnt

and yes scumoweens location attracted allot of outside attention but fuck me it was a wicked party! and by crikey sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and crack on!!

I dont think anyone on here is suggesting scum want violence, have you a particular post in mind?

Its the way they advertise their partys so openly, use stupid venues, talk to the media, chose to brand themselves and have big events far too often (and have at least in the past charged large amounts to get in) that seem to be leading to a backlash from the government. This, in part at least, is what seems to be upsetting people here.

and there was me thinking scum was a multi-national corporation that owned 30 rigs *slaps forhead*

🙂 same here but without the office lol

Aye, nobody is suggesting that Scum actually want violent people at their parties. However, after the shit that went down at Scumoween, they clearly knew what sort of crowd were going to attend this Strictly Scum Dancing event, especially so soon after the last one. I think it was highly irresponsible of them to put on the party, what with the implications in the squatting scene that are currently in question.

I ain’t denying that there’s been trouble in the psy scene – the beginning of 2009 was a bit of a troublesome time for all of that – but in general psy parties attract a very friendly lot, whereas these Scum parties seem to attract either chavs intent on mugging and causing grief, or young teenagers who find the thought of lobbing stuff at the old bill just as appealing as doing loads of drugs and k-holing in front of a rig blasting out music they aren’t usually into (not a dig at first timers in general, but the amount of FB profiles I have viewed of people into 50 Cent and R&B, who went to this Scum party, is testament to this).
