some years ago a friend of mine brought back from France a bottle simply marked “ALCOOL. 96°. BON GOÛT“. This only cost him a couple of Euros, and was a completely accurate description of its contents.
you cannot easily distill alcohol to over 96% purity as some water always gets in.
of course it wasn’t particularly pleasant to drink neat, although it was used to make a tincture of skunk buds and stems what was then mixed with other beverages. (you are talking Sunday afternoon/evening end of heavy session for the crew after a squat party type substance intake here..)
Even so, that bottle lasted a entire household of caners (and random visitors) some two years.
