the TV industry has strict (and somewhat outdated) definitions that date back to the time when there would normally only be one TV set in a family
Kids – age 0-12
Young people – 12-18
also children aren’t supposed to be watching after 21:00 (told you it was outdated)
skins is classed as an adults programme and appears to go to TX after the 21:00 watershed (I don’t watch TV these days so am not 100% sure), its also a drama where they are slightly more lenient
The BBC documentary is supposed to be a factual programme for family viewing
anyway what we end up with is two extremes of spin which help noone whatsoever, which dilute the real messages which are that responsible use of recreational drugs is possible but requires self-control…
I’m abit torn after reading this ‘cos like Scouse said, i too ended up going quite bad for a good year and half.
All that being said though i can look back on it now with a clear mind and i don’t blame the weed with a vengance or anything like that you know.
I can’t be arsed getting into it right now lol.
I agree if i was smoking it by myself all the time ofcourse it’s going to be different to having a good laugh with your stoner buddy!
i’ve experienced all the negative effects she describes and know several others who do too
i also smoked for years without ever feeling paranoid or anxious, but was unable to retain information or get out of bed, which i didn’t realise was down to weed until i stopped smoking it
it’s a powerful psychoactive drug
in my case a lot of the paranoia was simply because what I was doing was illegal, and obtaining drugs involved associating with dodgy people in dodgy places (like the Oxford Road in Reading late at night)
but I certainly did find cannabis made me less motivated/tired to the point the negatives outweighed the positives
back in 2000 everyone had this the “hippy dream” of lots of “sorted stoners” growing their own, a positive cannabis culture and imminent decriminalisation / legalisation..
I said the chances of this would be slim, although some would (and do) grow others would be lazy and a market would open up for even more gangsters producing weed on a commercial basis and that the “hippy cannabis cafés” would just end up being run by gangsters
I even predicted that decriminalisation would be a half-hearted, grudging affair that would be sneaked in by the backdoor (so as not to piss off America) the next time we ended up backing up the USA a “Middle Eastern” war (bear in mind I had no idea then what was to happen in September 2001!), and that something would happen to fuck it up and create a backlash…
I was then accused of being overly pessimistic, but look whats happened now…
It’s quite reassuring to know that someone who doesn’t smoke grass and with a low tolerance of the drug, can repeatedly pummel her brain with skunk, for 30 days straight, and not experience any long term effects.
She’s stupid, & I’m surprised nobody with a better education of the subject tried to talk her out of it.
…Imagine a documentary investigating the effects of Alcohol. Would you get a life-long teetotaler to drink everyday for a month, & start them off on Absinthe?
:you_crazy
What about The Magic Roundabout??
😉
even if that was a tongue in cheek comment theres a serious point there
although its a cliché that “70s/80s kids TV was all full of hidden (and not so hidden) drug references”, there was a definite influence of psychedelic culture
even the Goodies used to have Bill Oddie going off on a trip after doing “sherbert” and he would come up with made ideas..
In those days though the Ofcom programme code (originally intended for commercial telly) didn’t apply to the BBC – like the cops they made their own rules and did their own investigations so complaints could be ignored
skins is fuckin cringeworthy!
they think we all pop pills, dance to the klaxons and aspire to go to oxford university
Weed these days (Mainly Skunk) ain’t the safe drug that alot of people make it out to be. Personally i think it’s awful stuff and people need to be aware of how damaging it can be, specially the youngsters.
i’m with you 100% m8 … i think there are some people that are fine smoking it .. but then others arn’t … alot of people will defend skunk to any level just cos it’s what they do .. i know many people that are obviously having problems with it .. like can’t get up for work, paranoia ect. … but will still defend it with there life .. denyal and defencivness like this are signs of addiction..and thats a problem in it’s self
You all know my stance on this one. I can’t smoke shit damp wed without getting para but almost every day before work I get up and blaze a nice haze joint without problems.
I’m currently smoking amnesia haze which judging by its parentage should be about 20% THC and it gives me loads of energy to go to work and the motivation to get out of bed.
Even at night I have a bit of G13skunk from Mr Nice seedbank and I don’t ahve any problems despite it being a massively strong indica with high levels of CBN and CBD.
An even more extreme example would be smoking a joint of slate or other cheap pollen can make me whitey and feel shit all day but a bit of jelly hash that comes in about 85% THC I can enjoy (although it has to be in moderation)
I’m still adamant that the strength of cannabis has nothing to do with it and the problems people are having with weed nowadays are largely down to the poor quality and lapse growers.
Lol, just watched the program on iplayer. Proper funny when she goes on a whitey and starts tripping out!
