  • “An ink toner cartridge suspoected to have been converted into a bomb has been found aboard a United Parcel Service flight in London.

CNN reported that the flight was travelling to Chicago from Yemen. The bomb was discovered when the plane was stopped in London, CNN said.

Two UPS planes at Philadelphia airport and one UPS plane at Newark airport in New Jersey were also being investigated for suspicious packages. A UPS truck in New York City was also under investigation, police said.”

“Two East Midlands Airport alerts over suspect item

Parts of East Midlands Airport have been sealed off twice following the discovery of a suspicious package.

Emergency services were called to the Donington site at about 0330 BST and evacuated a distribution centre.

The area was reopened just before 1000 BST but a cordon was re-imposed just before 1400 BST so the package could be re-examined “as a precaution”.

Airport authorities said public areas had continued to operate throughout the incident.

A police spokesman said: “The package is being re-examined as a precaution and as such the cordons that were originally put in place have been reinstated as a precaution.

“This has meant that a freight distribution building and a number of offices have been closed together with internal airport roads – Beverley Road and Argosy Road.”

Emergency services have not given details of why the package was re-examined after being declared safe.”

TBH I’m more annoyed about the prospect of toner cartridges becoming yet more pricey due to “security costs” (they aren’t cheap as it is) than shocked at suspect IEDs being found – two halves of the world are now totally divided by a war over resources and religion so bombs are part of “business as usual”.

some of our cartridges are over 200 quid each

the suspect package apparently tested negative for explosives but was definitely a tampered with toner cartridge. Some “white powder” was also found. there are unfortunately a number of unpleasant things which could potentially be done to a toner cartridge to make it into a CBRN weapon (it is after all designed to disperse finely divided powder) or it could simply be used as a hidden component for a larger device so I certainly wouldn’t dismiss this reaction from the feds as paranoia.

    Hi all ,
I did airport security once when i was abroad , not my own choice just got roped into it . However i did the atsi course , which was your air port security course qualifacation . I didnt want to do it , even spelt my name wrong on purpose and still qualfied .

However i learnt what a tough job they have , no one likes you …….might as well be a traffic warden . Where i worked we had no rapiscan ( xray for bags ) so 100 % bag searches . No one likes you going through their bags . I learnt very quickly to wear rubber gloves , i once found what i can only explain as shit in some ones bag .

As bad as that sounds i couldn’t stop them flying , or complain just got on with it . I hated it , not my choice of job but hey here i was ……..bastards !!!!

An old trick was a wrist watch with a pin put through the face …..the explosives might be in a book on their cabin luggage ( explosives and celulose as in books paper etc shows up the same on rapiscan ) . They get on the plane they have the explosives in their over head lockers and the timer is their wrist watch .

Now at the time i had the choice of one or two things , one let them go by and alert the police to come deal with them . Or play hero and punch the bastards in the face . I can say this now as this was along time ago . Airport security has moved on alot more and for the better .

So if you get stopped , comply and you’ll be gone as quick as …..you dont then well maybe they search some more !!!!!

My point is they have a hell of a job , very hard and no one likes them just like traffic wardens …..but remember they are there for your safety as well

Please dont shit in your suit case , it aint good

    Regards
    Mungo

this was cargo apparently intended for areas where there are synagogues in the USA (why they are buying toner cartridges from Yemen I don’t know..)…

things are only gonna get worse as life is becoming much cheaper and people in some cultures/cultures (not only Muslims) see IED’s as an acceptable way of settling disputes..

I read on some powerpoint for medical staff about treating explosion/trauma injuries that the US feds deal with a IED every other day in some areas and its mostly White Americans using them against each other because of local criminal or even domestic disputes…

mind you there was that ex-soldier bloke in Kent what blew up his pregnant missus in the car recently, I knew something was up when they sent all the Colchester disposal crew to a “car fire”, cars set alight all the time on the A12 and they don’t normally call out the bomb squad!

    Hi General Lighting ,
Yep if you see bomb disposal, you know something is wrong .

not your average car fire at all

    regards

    good point :laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at:

according to Mr Obama, feds have now found some confirmed explosive material in packages destined for synagogues in the USA. They also suspect the toner cartridge was sent as a “test run” to see what could get through – also even if there isn’t any bomb the economic damage and fear caused still has an effect…

that was a fedex plane, my friend works for them. he got told by some nutter at work

UPS bomb in states was a false flag as UPS do not operate in yemen(UPS admitted to this), Just after the one in U.S.A, UK has to have one just to keep us in check to scare us a little bit more, very good scare tactic didn’t work for me. If they could stop 2 packages how come they could stop 4 planes and bombers with backpacks.

I was made redundant a couple of years ago – and today, for the first time, I was GLAD about that!
I used to be a multi-drop courier, I was security trained to collect outbound international shipments, our main hub was also EMA but AFAIK, the company i worked for wasn’t involved in this particular case.

Seeing this news reminded me just how stressy that job was, I really loved the job, but I HATED the unrealistic time pressures, especially with security being such a huge responsibility these days.
Often it felt like I was up against “PEOPLES’ LIVES vs PROFITS vs TIME”
Yeah i know thats an extreme way to look at it, but – thats how it was most of the
time, they pile the workload on and on, then next thing you know you could be responsible for the plane getting blown out the sky, and loadsa dead people – cos you literally didn’t have that extra minute it might take for you to do the bloody job properly! :hopeless:
Woo – bit of a rant there – hmm perhaps that was better out than in mefinks?!:you_crazy
Peace to all at PV – better than a hour’s therapy session any day if u ask me lol :group_hug
