  • I’ve just moved to Taiwan with the girlfriend. Taipei specifically.

I’ve been browsing the net for about an hour looking for traces of a party scene here.

I’ve heard of full moon parties that happen (or used too…), it’s full moon here on Thursday 30th and I really want to go!

From what the gf says there are plenty of Karaoke bars :yakk: and there used to be a reggae bar until it went under.

Do any PV’s have any knowledge which might point me in the right direction?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheap plane tickets to Thailand?

You wouldn’t catch me dead at a full moon party on Koh Phanghan. Some of the half moon parties in the jungle were alright…

Plus no funds to get there. Just done a month there anyway.

Stumbled across a nice little scene in Melbourne, AU just as I was leaving….

I wasn’t looking that hard to be honest, trying to keep in on the straight and narrow…

ok…My old chinese food provider is from Taiwan and from them I am told you shouldn’t expect any fun like techno parties in Taiwan…the police is way too repressive so party-heads seek pleasure elsewhere….sorry

From just browsing a bit I can see your probably in the best city for nightlife in Taiwan,

I found this site Rave.tw – Taipei nightlife, clubs and bars. there is quite a big club scene if your into that. I’ve also found some information on possible raves but i’ll PM you the link as its on a different forum.

its probably going to be the sort of clubs where its booze only and cantopop mixed with the cheesiest end of hardstyle / UK hardcore for music, Scouse left EA to get away from that :laugh_at:

bear in mind Chinese folk tend not to fight as much when pissed up so these venues are more successful than you might think without risking getting in serious shit for being involved with drugs (neither feds nor gangsters fuck around in that part of the world, in extreme cases it results in venues full of people “accidentally catching light” on the weekends). the best case is the feds just get the local electric company to create unexpected power cuts at weekends until the “druggy” club goes out of business which is what they did in Malaysia a few years ago.

scouse would be better off on the Chinese mainland but unless he’s learned Chinese in 2 years (in which case fair play to him) there could be a language and culture barrier…

    Hey GL,

    It’s been a while…

I tried to learn mandarin at uni but gave up after about 2 weeks

The gf is going to try and teach me the basics.

The irony is that I will most likely be teaching English to kids over here!

On the upside the missus found this…

There is an English translation further down for those for are interested.

    Cheers guys!

I don’t know any Chinese either and Dad was Chinese! (to be fair he did grow up under colonialism and my mum is Indian and his family spoke Hokkien anyway when they did speak Chinese).

I assume your girlfriend is Chinese (or has learned at some point which is not uncommon for AU these days).

took me a while to find the English translation though – but seems like a good event (appears that some of the profits are for the animal rescue)

this bit has to be another one for the quotes (along with todays Islamic spammer extolling the virtues of honey)

Besides, we disgust the commercial parties, and fully against those fake ravers and fake hippies who use the environmental resources but show no respect at all.

Yeah she’s Taiwanese…hates it when I point out her passport is from R.O.C. She was born in the states so she’s lucky as she loves to travel and that can be somewhat difficult for “Chinese”

I went to a place called Roxy 99 last night, it was pretty sweet. Not party music but still sweet. Then about 20 police raided the place to check ID’s. I’d only commented about 5 minutes before that I’d not seen any in Taipei….

About the same as the Suffolk Constabulary licensing checks they used to take down the Silver Star with.. (then again our local cops use the net to exchange ideas with foreign cops in coastal areas)…

It’s getting more positive by the minute 🙂

Unfortunately already made plans but I’m sure there will be more!

GL, I know you will struggle with this but could you give me a brief synopsis of the EA Scene. I’ve lost contact with most of the Ipswich heads and a certain LM has made the wise choice to avoid Facebook. I’m thinking of coming back for a month next Easter time… All the Best

TBH the ID thing isn’t surprising as its often genuinely done to protect teenagers, as with Asian folk its often hard to tell if they are 16 or 40 (I still get carded half the time I go to ASDA :laugh_at:) I’m curious about the one what was raising money for the cats and dogs home (especially as the animal shelter didn’t have any English pages but I was able to work out its basic layout as MY and SG use the same)..

if you want raves you might be better off staying in Asia unless things change drastically, occasionally events get tolerated in Lowestoft area and that is it. No venue here wants anything to do with dance music events, it just gets them double the grief as they’ve got pissheads and drug use issues to deal with, the venue owners are local people too who have to keep good relations with the cops. its too small a community with too many bell ends about what spoil any gathering..

From what I gather, it’s moving towards legally organised festivals now. The Local crew took their rig to the illegal party tent at organic sounds festival a few weeks back. Would love to travel back in time….

yep I saw that but Peterborough FFS, thats virtually foreign travel from here :laugh_at: also because of work I’ve not got time or ability to spend entire weekends too far away from work – can just about do weekend nights like the old days…

Carribean clubs been knocked down now! for one year the local folk voted in the tories what let it rot and even though Labour got back in by that time it was too far gone (damp etc) to save the building.

what I think is a big shame is there is fuckloads of talent in EA but absolutely nowhere for folk to express it – fair enough illegal events were taking the piss and trashing the environment, but at least provide some legal outlets like they have in Holland (I can read a fair bit of partyflock.nl these days and they have venues like Carribean Club in every town for smaller events as well as the big trance ones we hear of worldwide..)
