Daily Mail 3 April 2007
It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.

What’s next
to be fair i’d question the credibility of that story. a lotta spin i woulda thought, i mean – it is the daily mail, after all…
BBC News
Some schools avoid teaching the Holocaust and other controversial history subjects as they do not want to cause offence, research has claimed.
touché 😉
… it does seem a tad over the top…
political correctness is just going to absolute extremes now, when does it actually stop.
i remember learning about it for a level, and apparently its offensive to use the term black boards in schools…
it isn’t. some ignorant white person made that up and it’s become an urban myth. i deliver diversity training to all sorts of organisations and have even been involved in a community panel on diversity for the local police and believe me, anyone who tells you that doesn’t understand the issues
not teaching the holocaust is positively dangerous though. i know a fair few muslims and none of them think the holocaust didn’t happen. most would comment on how the zionist use it as an excuse to persecute and kills palestinians though
Lots of other teachers still teach sex education even though some pupils will have conservative religious backgrounds (from both Western and Eastern religions).
Boothy himself disagreed with his science(?) teacher over the drugs education, and got hauled up before the headteacher for his pains and accused of “knowing too much!!”
So why are history teachers so fucking spineless then?
I can see some of what the teachers are getting at, and they should be backed up by the govt and education authorities to teach emotive subjects in such a way that any serious trouble resulting from it could be dealt with.
It won’t be cheap or easy because some kids (possiblly even the more intelligent ones) will want to avenge past wrongs, so it might require a multi-agency approach involving the Education Department, Racial Equality groups and maybe even the Police (to make sure there aren’t gang fights outside school).
Surely if any kids, whatever culture they are, challenge a teacher to the point they where are actually advocating a form of racism in class then they should be disciplined for racist behaviour, the same as if they did it in the street or workplace.
The same should happen with any teenagers who actually fight amongst race lines because of what they have learned in school – if the discussion actually turns to violence they should be excluded from class, perhaps even arrested?
I have to say I’m a bit suspicious of some of these history teachers’ ultimate motives.
Over the years I have met a lot of teachers with conservative views, who do not agree with multiculturalism and progressive education policies that arrived here in the 1960s onwards and would anything they could to destroy these . And of course as a teacher you are in a position of power, and (presumably) of above average intelligence.
I suspect there are teachers deliberately using their power to “stir the pot” and try and roll things back to the “good old days” when there were strict class and race divisions in this country. Perhaps its hardly suprising that history teachers may be advocating this…
Yes I often wonder if this may not be the case too,And as for Boothie I remember myself teachers mostly hate it when a pupil is better informed than themselves (Correction -unsuitable teachers)
dangerous. we ignore history at our peril.
we need more education, not less.
this is what I suspect is the real issue.
IME most of the Muslims I knew at high school were peaceful types but very interested in education, and studied hard (when I was off smoking or larking about they would usually be in the library looking at some books or revising). I expect mosques (I have never been in one myself) also have their own libraries and info sources.
They would be highly unlikely to start a fight or deliberately disrupt class, but (as globalloon said) would probably start a discussion about the use of the holocaust as a spin tool by zionists.
A teacher who wasn’t prepared for such a discussion would probably get shown up in front of the entire class (of all races and cultures) and it would undermine their “authority”, this IMO is their real worry.
Too many teachers aren’t prepared to do any more learning themselves…
like wtf, how do you teach history if things like this are left out, so the kids grow up not knowing shit, then get into shit later on life for not knowing it, like where does it stop with, we are offending muslins, like can they not see that maybe some of there antics are pissing of folk, but we are not up in arms shouting its racist if we see something Muslim, so why cant they do the same, history is history, stuff like the holocaust happened, and every aspect of world history should be taught to kids.
It was Health & Sex Education (shitty compulsory lesson), but I think it was taken by a science teacher that particular day, yeah…
And I agree with overall motivation thing. I mean, surely anyone with half a brain could see that this would definitely give the Daily Mail “PC-gone-mad” types more ammo against the quickly progressing multi-culturism?
Shit… some long words there… best take a break :laugh_at:
but surley they will try to break down our ways & traddittions, we can see this happening time after time with uniform issues in schools ,now they are affecting the content of the lessons ,they also appear to fall under different guidlines when it comes to free speech their agenda(the fannatics) is to make this an islamic state make no mistake .the law of the land applys to everyone no special cases. racial equality yes but it must cut both ways mutual respect for one another without wanting to change one another but im fed up with people being made to feel appologetic & guilty for being white,
if there was really a danger of this in any school there would soon enough be MI5 agents joining as “teaching assistants” to keep an eye on things.
There are also lots of other religious fanatics who try and influence schoolkids (I went to Catholic school and there were plenty of nuns who were as bad as any of the madder imams)
Perhaps faith-based schools should be discouraged but what would happen is that the Christian and Muslim conservatives (who actually have a lot in common) would fight this bitterly.
A lot of the time people are not trying to change one another but to debate past wrongs which have definitely happened.
Yes the current white population who have no part in empire-building, colonialism or racism will feel defensive but it needs to be made clear that its not their generations fault, but that of past generations who profited from this. (and TBH why feel defensive if you have no part in past wrongs?)
It has to be debated by the youth of Britain in safer, controlled environments like schools and colleges, otherwise it will result in war on the streets, there are enough angry young men to carry it through to that level and that is a danger not just to Britain but to the World.
I agree with u rabbit, mutual respect without wanting to change each other. But here’s one thing that twists my head up.
I am extremely liberal in my thinking but that makes me just as much a fanatic who wishes to impose my will on others as an extreme fundamentalist of any other persuasion, christian, muslim, jew etc
I want everyone to respect each others culture, religion, beliefs etc, live and let live. Peace, love, unity, respect.
Only one problem. That’s MY belief, and i want to make EVERYONE ELSE be like i want em to be. You see the catch? Do i want people to have their own beliefs or do i want them to think like me?
An i know what u mean about feeling ashamed about being white but as GD says a lot of it is history. As long as you are not doing anything to be ashamed of you should not feel ashamed.
