Ten Czech Bus Drivers Caught for DUI
PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) — A police crackdown on bus traffic in the Czech capital caught 10 drunk bus drivers in a single day, police said Wednesday.
The action Tuesday targeted public transportation, tourist and long-distance buses. Besides catching the 10 drunk drivers, police fined 256 drivers for speeding and nine drivers who were unable to present valid driver’s licenses.
Officers taking part in the sweep, the first of its kind, checked 1,606 buses.
The Czech Republic has a zero-tolerance policy for drunk driving, meaning anyone caught driving with any amount of alcohol in the body is considered a drunk driver.
Punishments usually include a suspension of the driver’s license and fines.
at least you posted this after everyone from our manor went off to CZtek so as not to worry them too much… 😀
bear in mind this policy is far harsher than most other EU member states where a certain amount of alcohol is still allowed…
I can’t help but wonder if this also a show of strength by the authorities there as often EU funding is conditional on showing that the government can enforce the appropriate regulations..
yeah well that little prick Stanislav Gross is to be the next prime minister of czech – he was the interior minister that presided over the fascist cop torture of protesters in prague in 2000 – fucking depressing news really (not that it’s surprising)…
would love to go to czech tek – if only to party and erase the weird trip last time i was there in prague in 2002. Then me and a few mates got followed by sinister czech secret police everywhere we went – they were def from the ‘old regime’ and had one hell of a terror hold over the locals – all very nasty and pretty freaky.
still, no czech tek for me, just blue moon moots a plenty, oh well…
Nb he’s still interieio minister, just tipped to be next PM
from prage post:
“As minister, Gross gives Czechs what they want, Sidlo said, holding large-scale crackdowns on traffic violators and brothel owners. The police actions are routinely followed by midnight press conferences where Gross hams it up for the media.
“But behind the scenes he has employed many figures from the pre-1989 era, graduates of the communist police schools.”

fuck, thats worse. The Interior Minister [1] usually is in charge of the civillian police service and the internal security service of an EU nation.
Bear in mind also that there are many authoritarian EU member states as well as liberal ones.
TBH I am rather worried about this new EU lark;
I have been researching it over the years and it seems that the rich countries are actually closing down the routes of funding the new ones were expecting to get (such as farming subsidies), and giving them a trickle of euro-cents provided they “beef up their legal systems and border controls/security systems”.
This creates a perfect climate for cops and spies and chaps like Mr Gross.
[1] In Britain he or she is also called the “Home Secretary”
