  • I plan to eventually run this from a protected power supply (with some sort of accu) so it would still work in a power failure (provided of course the GSM network stays running). I recovered it from an old installation a couple of years ago and managed to reprogram it to work with the rest of my phone system but as supplied it has this bizzare 6,7 volt PSU which I’ve never seen elsewhere and the official way of supplying it with ext power requires a special header cable and software which are no longer available as its 15 years old and Microsoft have simply abandoned support of it.

it connects to a normal analogue phone (I am playing oompah music down the analogue phone so there is some audio traffic being transmitted)

:lol_big_ what is it with you and oompah music#/

one reason is youtubes copyright fed robot rarely flags it; but I do quite like it (as well as the bagpipes). I am not 100% sure myself why ; I may have got this amongst other habits from Dad although many of my current experiments are inspired by the radio enthusiasts of his age from NL and DE.

Also in 1971 when Dad got mum pregnant due to mixing up “artificial methods + the rhythm method and getting his maths/wrong + not asking Mum all the intimate questions that are required for it to have a chance of working” instead of getting me baptised like a good Catholic; for reasons I may never know until the next life he went on some random coach tour with Mum across Northern and Central Europe; which coincidentally ended up in many Catholic areas like some bits of NL, DE and AT.

We once had some family photos showing mum, dad and myself (still inside mum”) stood by a ZOLL/DOUANE control station; the friendly border guards took them and one of them may have told Dad “all three of you can stay here instead of the UK; but its best if you learn our language”

There was lots of other pictures of folk in traditional dress, lederhosen etc dancing and singing (I suspect this was in AT).

I do remember Dad in the mid 70s trying to learn German but not getting very far; and even finding his German books and tapes and listening to them myself and getting slightly further, though only as far as a 5 year old could in any language. He did often sing on the WC “Muss I denn, muss I denn, zum Städtle hinaus? Stätdle hinaus? und Du mein Schatz bleibst hier…”
(an adaptation of an soldiers marching song used in Wooden Heart by Elvis) though he wasn’t exactly the best singer…

I could only study German at high school until year 9 due to resource issues at school; I had to learn the rest of the language online by free choice though I may well have been exposed to the language before birth which could have been a factor in this.

When my younger sister was born in the more progressive Father at the local church (who may have been an Irish Scouser) after checking my parents marriage details (and learning their ages) quietly said “and bring along any other onesyou might have had before her, we will do the Baptism and Confirmation together “no questions asked”.

Incidentally both myself and my sister are fairly proficient in German (she can do entire marketing presentations in the language) which really confuses the googlebots and online marketers 🙂

You arriving 4 years early suggests Dad may have had serious premature ejaculation issues lol.

TBH it was most likely more a combination of overexcitement (they had just left a socially controlled and highly religious country for the UK in the “anything goes” era of the early 1970s) + the dislike many males have for condoms and that they weren’t that easy to buy until 1980s.

Bear in mind that many pharmacists were/are British Asian too so would have reminded him of his own Dad (or mums parents). At least he waited until he got to Blighty, otherwise I’d most likely have grown up in Singapore [as he could have also got a visa as he went to a Catholic sixth form college there] and I probably would have ended up becoming a cop or soldier (you have to do at least 2 years Army service anyway in SG….

GL I fucking love your posts.
