POLICE sent out five patrol cars, a helicopter and a dog to chase a yob who smashed a police car window.
Officers in Didcot saw a vandal smashing the rear window – estimated to be worth up to £100 – of a marked Vauxhall Corsa parked outside Didcot police station on Sunday evening and chased the suspect.
Last night, Thames Valley Police spokesman Kate Smith defended the number of officers and vehicles called in for the hour-long operation and said it would have been the same if it the vehicle belonged to a member of the public.
Sometimes I do wonder about the police, it must have cost a fortune to catch this bloke. All for a £100 window, :you_crazy
It’s a lot of money compared to what a new window would cost
And it probably wasn’t necessary to use half of it
But if it was your car and they told you to get over it because it will only cost you £100 to get it fixed..
I’m sure you would be mad as hell
I’m sure you would be mad as hell
i dont think the police would go to them lengths if it was a member of the publics car.
I don’t think so either..
But even if it was 1 police car or a cop on foot it would be more expensive than a new window..
I’m not saying it’s okay..I think it’s crazy :you_crazy
The bloke muxt have shit himself when they sent that lot after him :laugh_at:
i asked a copper at our party how much it cost to send out the helicopter that was buzzing over our heads for 30 mins, cant remeber the figure but it was over 2,000. he said it would have been in the air anyway, but was being wasted on a party.
its rediculous, didnt that essex party last year cost the police 300,000 for the extra coppers and helicopters??!!
sending all those guys after the offender in my opinion is the police saying someone who attacks the law will be hunted down with all the resources, money and might of the police.
a statement to put others of doing such a thing, in my opinion.
and i agree, i dont believe theyd do that much if it was a member of the puclics vehicle
hahaha u mean, we spent 300000 not the coppers, they dont spend money for them selves, they spend our money closing down our parties, they spend our money for a new windscreen, surely we should have some say in this, or should we?
looking after ‘their own’, the police are notorious for it…..
on Monday my mate saw a guy drive straight into his parked car, get out look at the damage he did and get back in and drive off,
my friend walked to the police staion to report it – (his car now fucked )
as he got the number plate, make etc,
and the police station was shut,
he then walked back there later in the day to report it to find mne copper sat watching TV, uninterested and told to come back with his insurance papers etc……
despite doing this nothing yet has been done
they would….
exactly the same story i know with a member of the public’s car (same force involved too), there was a chopper 2 riot vans n 3 squad cars within 15 minutes (n this was maidenhead/slough where there IS more important crime), the damage was estimated at £20 was an old van
a mate of mine rides moto X. Someone broke in his garage and nicked one of his (distinctive) bikes
a few days later he saw it being ridden around town, he called the cops who said they were too busy to deal with it, so he followed and when this kid got off he pulled up in his van and told the kid to get in, with the bike
when he got back to his own house (where he was taking the bike and the kid) the street was blocked off with armed cops who were hunting him for kidnap… in the end the cops dropped the charge as the kid got in the van of his own free will (if you discount a good stare from a hard looking bloke who is pissed off about his bike being joy-ridden)
so… when he reported seeing his bike that had been stolen to the cops, they were “too busy” with other stuff to catch the thief, but when he sorted it out himself, they had ample resources to waste
it’s one rule for one and another for another IME

Comments like this annoy me so damn much, their real bastards. All my dads fishing gear got stolen from our shed and the police didnt want anything to do with it.

and some counties cant afford a fucking air ambulance.
mixed up priorities maybe??
in areas where no air ambulance exists the Police aviation is used (or diverted) to pick up casualties. I’ve certainly seen XA97 being used to pick up someone who injured themselves at a Ridgeway party around 2004 or so.
this of course is dependant on aircraft not being tasked to the other side of the region for looking for “criminals”, many constabularies share an aircraft across force boundaries.
I’m fairly sure there has never been public funding (or its very rare) for the Air Ambulance in this country, they all seem to be still run as charities.
Even normal ambulances were originally funded by local authorities rather than the NHS, and weren’t given the same level of access to resource such as protected wireless frequencies (which is ambulance radios are often still on the same range as private taxi-cabs!)

A similar thing happened toa patient of my dads. She was alone at home when she saw a man break into her shed full of expensive gardening equiptment and some family heirlooms. Obvioulsy she phoned the poice, who said as she was fairly remote it could be up to an hour as there was no one immediately available.
Five minutes later as she saw him take a crowbar and head towards her garage she phoned back and tole the police “don’t bother coming anymore everything is ok….I’ve shot him”. Within minutes police were on the scene and apprehended the robber.
They pulled the lady up saying “we thought you said you’d shot him” to which she replied
“I thought you said there was no one available”
