Well, here we go.
VAT is to rise from 17.5% to 20% from 4 January next year
that’s a fair old suck of the sauce bottle
God I HATE Harman
the best things in life are free
and the next best things in life are about 5 quid a tab =P
I blame Labour for the mess we’re in. I’m glad they’re gone and equally glad common sense is starting to return to the country.
And you can turn all the unemployed into sausages (said in a William Hague accent)..
Sweeny Todd style sausages?

I knew the lower vat rate was a empty gesture
in Denmark VAT is 25% and its about 21% in Germany, and already 19% in the Netherlands..
you can’t have things like free public healthcare, relatively safe roads, libraries, schools etc without funding them from some form of taxes…
there is no VAT on food and some other essential things, and the option to buy less stuff..
I am with GiantMidget on this one, anyway I checked the budget calculator on the BBC news site and it will make naff all difference to my wages anyway… not too fussed with the VAT increase, the countries finances needs to be sorted.
I think the benefits system needs looking at though as I think its awful when you can be better off not working than having a job on minimum wage.. Where the fuck is the incentive to get a job?

I’m not saing we are better or worce off than any one else nor am I saing that it’s fair or not fair that the vat rate is at what ever rate it happens to be at the time … I’m saing that it was a pointless gesture putting it down then cranking it up even more. Might as well of just kept it where it was then put it up as when it comes to govenment things only cost more and more over time.

British people out of all the other European nations seem to be the worst for complaining about taxes and wanting public services at the same time. Hence all British governments since Thatcho in particularly have tried to hide the exact amount of taxation, particularly Thatcho when she gave people the idea “you could have it all”..
Other EU nations either charge less in taxes and have less public services (for instance in some European nations you are charged for calling out certain types of ambulances!) or they are totally honest about the need for high taxation to preserve good public services (such as the Netherlands and Denmark) and the people just pay the taxes and carry on, although unsurprisingly they then tend to want to guard their benefits more from immigrants and it is reflected in the way their governments have changed.
Yeah alot of brittish are fucking misserable cunts .. but as long as they are moaning then they feel slightly better about them selves. The only two govenment things i use that i can think of are transport (that i pay through the nose for up front with out taxes) and the NHS. apart from pavements (and i would much rather be walking though a field than down a fucking nasty poluted a road every day to work!) there’s no service i can think of that i would gladly pay for (other than coast gards ect. alltho i wouldn’t likely need to use them).
oh and when i went to school when i was younger – and when i get a pention when i’m older assuming i’m not a millino air by then.

a lot of it is behind the scenes – regulating private companies to ensure they don’t completely take the piss, sort of like a old style nanny banging the kids heads together so they play nicely and don’t bully each other..
The Council does do some useful stuff at least here like take away the trash and provides something approaching a road, and they plant roses under the street signs when on grass verges :laugh_at:
we all use the services indirectly, it is true you are unlikely to directly use the Coastguard (as the PLA look after the Thames until it gets to Essex/Kent coastal areas) but they make sure all the container ships and everything else on the sea is safe and they don’t crash into one another (since moving closer to the North Sea I have become curious about nautical matters )
there are loads of hidden rocks and wrecked ships around the North Sea, including one filled with a load of old explosives.
Actually the North Sea is full of unexploded ordnance, I think it is worth paying tax to deal safely with this – even more of a closer to home issue fo young Josh, Biotech and Titch!
