We have similar services here but some of the vehicles were about 30 years old, and normally only pensioners and kids use them (those who are either not able to drive or too frightened to ride a bike in England). Last time I got on one it first broke down and had to be restarted on the manual starter, by a grumpy looking bloke what looked like Blakey off the old “on the buses” comedy show…

These and national express and the other big transport groups are combined in England (National Express was once nationalised) – though the buses might have local branding they are all owned by about 3 or 4 large companies. The vehicles are nothing like the standard of those used in DK, NL or anywhere else where they still realise public transport especially for evenings and weekends is a smart idea and makes the streets safer…
