Glade exists because of a commercial business deal with one of the biggest landowners in West Berkshire, its a licensed party. But it still doesn’t mean people are above the law and can blatantly cane drugs, and there will always be CID about. TVP don’t particularly like festivals as one of their detectives got shot dead at Reading festival 30 years ago by drug dealers, and the older senior cops still have a bit of a grudge about it.
The Ridgeway parties are unlicensed events, which were fun at their peak (was going from 1999-2005). Some were so near my old town (Reading) I would cycle there!
TVP got harsh because the same spots kept getting caned over and over again, rubbish was left and also chav/pikey types infiltrated the parties who would drive there in stolen cars and burn them out, plus there was the usual people doing too much and needing to be taken away in Ambulances or even airlifted out of the area!
also in Summer 2004 they cops put on full riot gear but they got (relatively peacefully) run off the ridgeway by x amount of ravers, they had to retreat backwards. It was fucking hilarious to watch at the time, but the cops didn’t accept defeat.
In Oct 2004 the same riot cops got their payback, they turned over a warehouse really harshly (the biggest anti-rave action ever seen in years), 8 crews had stuff confiscated, it was only given back in 2006 after a Court case and each crew being fined £2000 each..
And in late 2005/early 2006 Ryan from Surge got identified due to pics and posts on SJ and was given an ASBO (hence his current DJ name!)
