After the video was uploaded to YouTube, Jonathon quickly became a cult celebrity. Hundreds of commenters echoed the same sentiment: “this kid is awesome.” But despite his ballooning popularity, Jonathon and his family didn’t learn about his fame until his sister got a MySpace message from a friend: “Do you know about your brother? He’s freakin’ famous!”
Jonathon couldn’t be happier about his Internet fame. Said Jonathon for one of many newspaper interviews he conducted in the aftermath of the video: “I’m thinking I’m famouser (sic) than a lot of other people. It’s really funny to me.” And so there you have it. At the end of the day, the “I Like Turtles” kid always gets the last laugh.
