  • The Day The Music Stopped | Mixmag

A Dj and club owner have been put in prison for 5 years because dealers were found in the club. The management had previously shopped 50 dealers to the cops and some only got community service…

‘Early on in the proceedings the prosecution bafflingly suggested that Tom could have cut down on drug use by taking to the mic every half an hour and shouting “Hey! Don’t take drugs, kids”. But even that zinger was later trumped by the Judge’s own idea. “At some points in court it got comical,” says Carl. “He kind of half-laughed and said ‘you could have changed the music to Strictly Come Dancing or maybe line dancing – something that isn’t associated with drugs to attract a different crowd’.

Be afraid. Be aware. Be careful.:hopeless:

they’re just catching up in SW with what they already done in the East of England since the 1990s

then once they are done with the dance music clubs, they will slowly but surely deal with the pisshead venues as booze isn’t making as much tax money as before and is costing the NHS loads dealing with injuries/addictions..

if/when the Tories get in at the next elections I could easily see them either reversing the entire Licensing Act or amending it to the point we go back to 1980s licensing hours (everything stopping at 12/1am including nightclubs) apart from in areas where they have already done this…

    scary stuff indeed 🙁

it is but its inevitable TBH

also I don’t feel that sorry for the man after reading how he grassed up his own friends to the feds to make his commercial business look good

by all means warn them or get the security to do so or ban them from the place if they are bringing in drugs – but I don’t agree with a dance music promoter getting the feds involved (unless its violent thugs, dealers having turf wars or sexual predators targeting the event) – for personal drugs use thats just hipocrisy IMO.

anyway I reckon they paid him back by saying to cops he was taking a cut (whether or not this was true) hence the higher sentence..

Electronic dance music is based around drugs and drug culture and has been so for the last 20-25 years. I remember in 1993 when Thames Valley cops succesfully took out most of the main good quality pill and speed dealers and loads of people just gave up partying until the dealers bounced back.

In fact most of pop music is based around drugs and drug culture and that is also being controlled now but its because idiots like Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty are acting in public like scum. I think a fair few classical musicians also partake of drugs but they are much more discreet about this, and that is why they get away with it more.

also (I don’t agree with this but its the harsh reality) the new generation are being punished for the sins of people my age.

Thanks to peoples lack of self-regulation during the good days, there are loads of lunched out, fucked up thirty-somethings what aren’t working, have split up their marriages/relationships (often due to controlling/violent behaviour on comedowns) and left kids to be raised by one parent/on beneifts because they couldn’t control their own drug use “back in the day”. Many of them draw substantial amounts of resources from the NHS or from the benefits system.

they all still have parents, brothers, sisters, former friends and bosses, and all these people are fucking angry (even if they love them deep down) at having to pay their taxes etc for getting the hedonists “back on the rails”. hence the popular support for what may see as very draconian laws.

Its a shame thought that teenagers and twenty-somethings are losing out, but then again I still see them making the same mistakes.. :hopeless:

its harsh but it seems very odd that they could do this without a body of evidence, otherwise every dance music DJ in the country would be in the can by now!
