met office have now rescinded their earlier long range forecast predicting a hot summer, replacing it with a more normal one for this nation (although not anywhere as bad as the flooding of 2007 / 2008). They have admitted to adding a certain amount of “false optimism” to the good weather allegedly to help journalists!!

predictability and weather seems a bit oxymoronic..
long range forecasts have always had a risk of error and the actual scientists at the met office were honest that the forecast may change and it gets revised. Its a combination of the met office’s press office and the mainstream media what talked up the optimism and they got proven wrong by the realities of science.
even so its not exactly a national disaster, just a normal British summer which is still an improvement on the last couple of years. The greater rainfall is also increasing the numbers of small creatures (insects etc), which even if you don’t like them the birds and other small mammals can eat them so its good for nature in the long run….
having seen the way humans behave in good weather (an increase in violent crime, sexual assaults, burglaries of buildings due to insecure windows/doors to let in fresh air) I think the creatures deserve the weather more than we do..
