  • That guy trying to grab it and the guy trying to put it out with the fire extingisher was quality. Totally overshadowed the ritual and made everybody aware and thinking about the tibet/china issue.

Its such a shame that people in china have no idea that they are going on and think that everything is going fine.

Whats everyones opinions should sport be seperate from politics or is it a good time to try to get across political opinions? (Regardless of what you think of the rights and wrongs of this particular issue).

Personally i think it provides a good opportunity to make political statements. Think about when Nelson Mandela came on wearing the springbox rugby shirt. Or all the issues with the various cricket tours…

    Anyway whats your views?

should be boycotted by the UK

the whole Olympics is rotten to the core

comptetive sport across nations is merely war by proxy and of course riddled with political issues, it increases nationalism and stuff like the Olympics has a negative effect everywhere it occurs

although there is nothing wrong with sport and keeping fit for peopels own personal enjoyment and development this is built on money and politics

then 3 months after the champions get gold they are often busted for performance enhancing drugs etc its all pure hypocrisy..

When it comes to the Olympics it is political…

I hate sport and all those toned athletic people.
I am severly allergic to any type of athletic activity, unless it was dancing till morning…

Think I need to go and get my self a biscuit(s) plural… hehe and a cup of hot choc while I watch some more TV ……

Where are the medals for being good at being average? discrimination against us unfit couch potatoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when china won their olympic bid, it was partly based on certain guarantees of political reform. those reforms haven’t materialised, so european heads of state should not attend.

saying that, our government is guilty of all kinds of human rights shit. we sell arms to indonesia that are used for genocide in west papua, we allow ‘special rendition’ flights on our soil, we send refused asylum seekers back to sudan, iraq, syria etc.

we’ve allowed the govt to remove the right to trial by jury, the right to freely peacefully protest, given the police powers to lock people up for a month at a time with charging them etc etc

    we’ve started 2 aggressive wars since 2001

i don’t think we are really in such a strong position to be making demands on other countries until we sort ourselves out

its scary how none of this is reported in china. all they saw of london was steve redgrave holding the torch up in an empty stadium.

a bbc reporter was asking chinese people on the streets what theyd heard and they all though it went really well, and if there was any trouble it was probably that sneaky evil dali lama.

    fuck state controlled tv.

I dont know if any of you saw/herd paula radcliffes speach i think she said that they are just doing this because noone knows what is going on in tibet at the moment and they are just trying to get attention.
I’m sorry love but do you not watch the news. I think i will find the video i was watching and link you guys up.

this whole world tour of the olympic torch is a farce in itself. It isnt an age old tradition and was in fact started by the Nazis in the notorious 1936 olympics. It was used to show fascism off across the world. It is a complete smack in the face to the Tibetans that the tour end in its capital Lhasa. Gordon Brown is a complete coward for not saying anything as his hands are tied by lucrative trade deals with Chins.

every country has shameful things that they like to keep hidden away.. Maybe China due to its size is still where some of our countries were not too long ago…Lots of countries at the moment all have their “nasties”, we just don’t get to hear about them as much…

I am in no way condoning China and the way it governs.
But do a little digging in about the country that you live in now.. where ever you are and there are sure to be some major human rights issues tucked away there somewhere…

I was shocked to learn about Sweden’s link with WWII and I only learned about their extremely dodgy history when we were driving up north in the forest and the road suddenly became massively wide for a huge stretch of road… turns out they had a deal with the Nazis for their planes to land there.. in order that they would not be invaded.. Train links were used as well…so Sweden in more ways than one was in the pocket of Hitler..(That part if history is so downplayed here… no one mentions it at all)… That really sickened me as I am from a Commonwealth country of course we supported the British troops and me and my friends have in our family heritage family who fought in the war against hitler…

Another example, which could be compared to the way china says you can only have one child… (but actually I think Sweden’s crime is worse..)
is in Sweden until I think sometimes in the 60’s (maybe 70’s, I know I should have facts to hand but I dont… this is recall… sorry) They basically STERILISED anyone they deemed not good enough to carry on the gene pool… Yep… have a handicap, disability, mental instability, some would even for as far as to say low intelligence, low education and not beautiful enough to contribute to the gene pool….then sterilised you became.
(I really wish I could remember the link.. it made for fascinating reading..)
And this was only not that long ago….

China I predict will actually keep developing as a country.. The west has developed far quicker than the rest of the world…
They just are extremely blunt in what they do and how they do it… rather that the countries we know who go about things behind closed doors and commit all sort of atrocities…. A lot of countries, and not just china at the moment have appalling human rights issues… woman rights in the middle east for one…

What does worry me the most about china is their “alliance” of sorts with North Korea.
I asked a Chinese acquaintance at Swedish school what the deal was with that… he said it was because the USA has strong links to nearly all countries surrounding China, so thats why the link was closely kept in order to be able to have joined forces for any retaliation..
Personally I was horrified… North Korea for me is the worlds wild card… ready to nuke you at any moment should you piss them off… What I wonder about is if China and North Korea are “together”… if you piss of China would North Korea come out in defence?

Yes it’s disgusting how the Chinese government treat the Chinese and rule by fear.. But has the world not learned (through war for example) that telling another country how to do something is just not going to work… If the Chinese want change then they will need to in the future initiate that change, they need to be in charge of their future.. it might take another 50+ years…But I predict (hopefully) that someone, a group possibly will challenge the government and the way things are now… the fight for democracy will begin at some point…especially as links with the wetern world become stronger…. it will probably be ugly BUT if the Chinese fight for what they want surely they will win in the end?I mean the government cant kill everyone??????Can they?:hopeless:

this is exactly the case. also everyone is taking more of an interest in China because they have become a superpower whereas before it wasn’t really scrutinised as much other than by people who were interersted or have ancestry there such as myself.

China already has plenty of its own nuclear missiles they can target anywhere in the world. Most are targeted to India as a “warning”.

this is another reason why they want to keep and hold strategic control over Tibet.

They also have a large Army (in their country the term “Army” also includes the air force and navy so the Peoples Liberation Army is all three combined services).

North Koreas missiles aren’t very large – I suspect the North Korea issue its more the way England uses Scotland. They are being used as a cheap resource for reprocessing dangerous nuclear products from power stations, in return for a share of plutoninum and maybe assistance with infrastructure.

    Free CHINA!! I mean Tibet…….

every country is guilty of human rights shit, maby not switzerland, but id be boring if the olympics was there every time, let the chinese get on with it politics blah blah blah, if the nazis were allowed to host it the chinese should be aswell

fuck the olimpic flame .. i say we burn it!!!!!!!!!:crazy_dru

funny, that’s how i see USA. after all, they’re the only country to have used nuclear arms.

besides, N Korea did some missile tests a couple of years ago and their missiles would only fly for about 40 seconds, so they not much of a threat to anyone but themselves
