besides, N Korea did some missile tests a couple of years ago and their missiles would only fly for about 40 seconds, so they not much of a threat to anyone but themselves

NEW YORK (CNN) — He fought and triumphed over Hitler, Tojo, international Communism and a host of supervillains, but he could not dodge a sniper’s bullet.
Comic book hero Captain America is dead.
After close to 60 years in print, Marvel Comics has killed off Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, one of its most famous and beloved superheroes amid an already controversial story line, “Civil War,” which is pitting the heroes of Marvel’s universe against one another.
In the comic series, Rogers was to stand trial for defying a superhero registration law passed after a hero’s tragic mistake causes a 9/11-like event.
you reacon somthing like that could spark of another terror attack?

#If the Chinese want change then they will need to in the future initiate that change, they need to be in charge of their future.. it might take another 50+ years…But I predict (hopefully) that someone, a group possibly will challenge the government and the way things are now… the fight for democracy will begin at some point…especially as links with the wetern world become stronger…. it will probably be ugly BUT if the Chinese fight for what they want surely they will win in the end?I mean the government cant kill everyone??????Can they?’:hopeless:
Hey, slight branch out from the olympics, but I’m of the opinion that China will face the the same global problems as everybody else and may not get the chance to ‘develop’ for very much longer, maybe a decade or so before the pinch really starts to bite. All those coal fired power stations and dams aren’t a good thing by any stretch of the imagination. China’s thirst will just use up their resources pretty quick, then what. All that ‘development’ will be pointless, as you shouldn’t eat too much concrete, just on special occasions. Only reading today about global food shortages(not that you’d notice it in ASDA), but has anyone noticed how the price of food is creeping up in line with the cost of oil? Its not going to get any cheaper. we’ll have resource wars to look forward to, although it might be called war on terrorism or something like that.
I have a problem with the word ‘development’ related to countries. It sounds good and makes a few people plenty money(the people who already have plenty usually). But I don’t know what really develops. I know the Olympic sponsors will develop their market share and benefit a lot more than your average Chinese citizen. The Olympics is a tool of imperialism in its modern guise, it is political without a doubt. Good on Tibetans for using it to kick off.
it ain’t China’s “thirst” that is using up all the resources; it is EU and USA. We want it, we want it cheap and we don’t want the pollution in our own back yard. Hence China produce it cheap (as they are a poor country, with shit standard of living, so cheap wages) and dirty (the pollution per capita is far lower than EU and USA), we buy it cheap, throw it in the bin
and blame China
and blame China
there was a big meeting in Singapore about this issue
the Chinese said they were fed up with getting a reputation for making cheap shit and having bad working conditions but pointed out it was the ruthlessness of global competition – if consumers worldwide would pay more for quality they would build better stuff
I know of Chinese engineers who take great pride in their work (particularly with open source hardware and software) and do stuff like help make a telephone system that is affordable for all even poor villages where they never had telephones before, they work with Westerners and Indians to build this kit..
Incidentally in Malaysia they think its fairly ludicrous that there is an entire factory building electric heating elements to ship back to Norfolk (the local factory outside Norwich having been closed) because its cheaper to make them in the Far East. (the winter temperature at night is 20 degrees celsius) – but the workers in Asia aren’t going to turn down a chance to feed their families..
and blame China
yeah for sure. The EU And USA are the main markets and China is responding to growth and trends that occur in the global market, as it becomes more difficult in the west to turn a profit by selling goods of course business people turn to China etc to increase their profit margin.
I guess there is a comparison to be drawn with England during the Industrial revolution. I’ve heard it said China is the Manchester of the 21stC.
What I’m saying is China may not have 50 years of this kind of economic growth to develop greater social equality and human rights, due to the consequences of economic growth. At this stage in the game, we should all be thinking about sustainability rather than rampant profiteering, idealistic I know and won’t happen til its hand is forced.
If we all lived like Americans we would need 2 and a half planets, the pollution of Chinas Industrial revolution is spread out over a billion souls, and each persons carbon ecological & footprint is small compared to ours. But that will grow as more people want cars, more food is transported about etc. We are all facing the same problems but in the US and EU we are cocooned from reality to a far greater extent than most.
it’s the consumption of EU and USA that will bring the planet to it’s knees
and then there will be no more debate about human rights or democracy or immigration or tibet because we will all be at war with one another
i think my point is we should stop deflecting at China and sort ourselves out as we (EU and USA… not the governments, the residents) are the cause of virtually all global conflicts, which are over resources, with a couple of ideological conflicts (eg. Israel / Palestine, but even that turns out to be about a military presence in middle east for the paymasters; the jews and arabs dying are just bystanders really)

I have to yet again agree with GB (becoming an anoying habbit). China is becoming the whipping boy for the world as in CO2 emitions when the EU & US are as bad or worse.
I feal for the Tibbetans and there cause and think the western nations should boycot the Olympics.
I dont get involved when it comes to Israel & Palistine.
