  • Read about the passwords from the Ashley Madison had using bcypt a few days ago saying that the world crass crackers Ars have used for previous articles said they weren’t going to bother ttrying to crack those hashes because whereas with MD% hashes they can try over 8 billion guesses a second, this used bcrypt at cost 12 which means the password gets hashed not once, isong a computationally intensive hashing algorithm but hashes it 4096 times, meaning on the same hardware they were limited to are 300 guesses a second.

Now this bulletproof crypto means nothing as for god knows why they have these MD5 tokens for 15 million of these useraccount and they will be totally cracked very soon, 11 million + were already cracked in just over 10 days lmfao.

Once seen as bulletproof, 11 million Ashley Madison passwords already cracked | Ars Technica UK

I see why I genuniely thought you were a Scottish Asian of indeterminate gender when you first started on here (he/she is likely to also be brainy with computers) – soon the official languages of tech (English and French) will also become a mixture of “Engrish” and the Germanic/Scandinavian languages :laugh_at:

I had already this week had to program 10 Chinese communications radios using a mixture of their official (Engrish) and open source software-and double check they were all correct on frequency and not that of the Fire Brigade UHF sets (they still use analogue).

Then due to a confusion over how a DC-DC converter on some hardware I was working on is connected internally I sparked a -27V DC supply direct to frame earth (which is why there are 6 safety fuses in it in the L- supply). This is still is scary and made me think of Shun Gon [the Traditional Siamese cat] in the Aristocats saying to the kitten “ai, he brew it!”

This software flaw is very similar to how those MS proprietary apps often use the insecure Jet engine password encrypt; so the master database table is wide open.

Often monkeying about with passwords elsewhere in a user table or setting a blanco field is picked up by the app as corrupt database; but as long as you know one for a low level user right next to it is often an access level code that can be used to escalate your priveliges and you can set up a new one. (I add the wallpaper of the “viskat” (NL: fishing cat) to any system where this has been done as a marker.
