  • anyone else seen the news about the tories planning to penalise single parents?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6285826.stm

it doesn’t surprise me at all that despite Cameron trying to be the centre ground man, the whole party are still the same as ever

this policy would mean children of lone parents would be kept in deeper poverty than they already are, effectively punsihed for their parents relationship breakdown :yakk:

    Innit!!!

Saw this on news this morning – its just back 2 basics all over again – just dressed up and presented better.

Instead of overtly attacking single parents or non-married couples, like they did last time, this time their doing it the other way round and giving extra benefits to married couples wth kids and making this the empthasis, but denying those benefits to those who are unmarried families with kids.
They’re usig the carrot rather than the stick to try to force people to be married when they have children, but the end result will is the same.

Ok, they’re not overtly demonising single parents and unmarried couples like they used to, because they know they cant get away with it, but they’re still trying to tell us all that we should be getting married and if we dont then we’re doing something wrong and therefore shouldn’t be allowed the same benefits as those who are married – efffectively meaning kids who’s parents are not married are disadvantaged against those who’s parents are.

fuckin pathetic innit, cameron may be tryin to change his colours slightly buts hes a dirty blue at heart

I do actually think Cameron is slightly different and not like old tories – but he is just one man with a lot of enemies in the old guard

Tories are devious fuckers, they even broke thatcho in the end

If he ever got in I reckon the old guard would break him (probably get stitched up on some tabloid scandal) and then a rightwinger would seize power..

[FONT=Arial, sans-serif]I swear iheard on the radio gordon brown is wanting something similar to this. Fuckin hell.

i can’t imagine that being the case tbh

Personally i find this absolutely disgusting, cos ive been with my misses 20 years and marriage is just not important to us. Both our parents had very messy divorces and we just feel marriage is something we will probably do when the time is right if WE want to. We have a 4 year old and why the hell should she be penalised because our parents divorces made us both wary of marriage.

it would be odd if he did as it was him who took away the tax breaks for married people a few years ago

he might suggest it but even if tories got in i’d place money on it not makin it through the commons, let alone the lords…

i still have a bit of optimism with politicians, if not much! :weee:

Nah, i think he’s an opportunist. Like Blair, i don’t think it matters what he thinks, he’s only concerned with getting power, and will say anything to gain support. Which makes me hate him more than the Tories in general. At least they stick by their beliefs. He’s just a twat.

    what do married parents get?

can someone point me to a website or something

at the moment if only one parent is working, the other can claim JSA (the same amount as anyone else)

    cheers glo 🙂

ill read more about it and re-post

just skimming over that bbc report at the top, noticed inbetween all those long-winded sentences etc there a proposal to raise the price of booze and tackle binge drinking?

Yep, and another to re-classify cannabis!

Basically they want us all to be morally good people, drinking modestly, not doing drugs or gambling, and in a good, decent, heterosexual, married relationships with 2.4 children, with the husband out at work while wifey looks after the children.

They dont say it like that as they know that people would say fuck you, but the tone of this report certainly seems to be wanting to push people towards suucha thoroughly morally decent lifestyle
