Analysis of the UK Riots: Life After Rioting – Bristol Indymedia

There will be change, because this is part of something bigger. Right now, it’s not just the rioters that are running around like headless chickens, most of the media is doing it too. Most of the answers are already known, but people WILL persist in inane black-and-white models of reality, they think the causes and answers are simple, so they answer the problem first with dumbfounded outrage, then brutality, so this will escalate now, until the rioters decide it’s not worth the risk.
Who wants to build when they can take a building and throw it away in the same instant? As most of their parents have lived on credit, a buy-now-pay-later culture, then hit the hard times and have to work longer hours to pay off this mindless consumption, all the aspirations that make life worth having, have been perverted. People who are told at the same instant that they MUST own this stuff, and that they CANNOT own it, are doing what seems to be the only way they can satisfy both imperatives at once.

A fitwatcher’s view of the riots « Fitwatch
I’ve felt a lot of emotions over the past few days ranging from joy to grief to anger. It’s been amazing to see people fighting back against the police and it’s been equally horrific to see damage to people’s homes and small shops, let alone the deaths in Birmingham yesterday.
However, today I am just angry. I feel utterly sickened at the attitude of large numbers of people who are suddenly supporting the police, who support the army being brought in, who want to see water canon and plastic bullets used on the streets.

apart from you, mr. sinner. you are very youthful.
Even most of the cops do not want to use plastic bullets, water cannon or the Army. and many of these cops have served in NI and worked alongside soldiers and used these weapons and know it hasn’t stopped the civil war there, and is more likely to start one in England – and isn’t really worth it over what is a comparatively small number of criminals.
It is the middle class people who have never lived in a inner city before or who live in nicer areas of one who are calling for this and that is only because of their anger they cannot go to town and take matters into their own hands like has happened in some foreign nations or more correctly they are too shit scared to do so,unlike some of the British Asians who have given their lives to try and protect their family busineses.
Also the rioters are cowards too. They cannot attack the bankers or politicians directly, because where they live are target-hardened and these people are used to being unpopular and at risk of even direct physical attack or assasination (which happened 20-30 years ago) so they just take on anyone they think has a bit more than them.
This is also putting at risk the old British idea of “policing by consent” which is why there are in fact only about 35 000 cops in a country of 71 000 000, no gendarmes and only specialist armed police.
There may be change but it is not always good. this exact same stuff happened in Malaysia just after it became independent, the Malays, Indians and Chinese all fought each other for control, and there was a economic crisis as the British pulled out their money along with their colonial control. The result was they had to bring back some of the British colonial soldiers for peacekeeping (which remained until 1970s) and whilst they got democratic government it remains one of the most authoritarian governments with a “Westminster” (British) political system.
Do you think there is a place in this for entire communities standing in their own streets to put these opportunistic rioters off? They seem to be targeting areas of low resistance or trying to create them to exploit.

its not true that the areas are “low resistance” – the businesses protecting themselves have always done so but they don’t always win as there is that much anger and cops were already overstretched in some areas. People are looking out for one another and defending their property but it also needs the cops and justice system to back them up, and even then folk get hurt and killed.
A load of Tottenham fans in Enfield stood up and chased a load of rioters away a couple of days ago, I think they caught a couple and gave em a good hiding, Fucking fair play I say. Do what the police are afraid to do, stand up and not let these bastards get away with disorder.
That’s the spirit of England imo, standing and facing the scum together. Hopefully this is the end of the looting and rioting though 😉
The Turks and Asians did the same to protect their businesses across London though some pointed out that they had to do this anyway routinely long before any riot started as when they called nines feds never turned up. Even when the bulk of the looting is over the locals and feds will have to be on their guard for revenge and reprisal attacks. A lot more shit happened in these areas but isn’t as widely reported.

Tottenham Hotspur fans mate, Most of em were part of the Yid Army firm as it goes (or if rumours are to be believed)
Thats a part of the problem, this is no way forward. its just a small bump…I am not supporting the looting of the local communities or general stupidity, football-fan intervention is as bad as it can get, I should know i used to be hooligan….
I support em mate. If it makes people stand together, look after communities and generally keep trouble out then I give them my full support. what should they do then if you disagree with em helping out, let the twats get away with trashing their community???????
