my mums mates are quakers and I cant imagine they are anything like your church TBH, and I can imagine her not agreeing with all this hell and damnation stuff….
from my experience they are quiet and reflective and acknowledge their beliefs are not the only way, they meet in the ‘friends meeting’ place – so again not some fancy church or cathederal

    spot on

i used to go to quaker meetings occasionally, although i never became a member

the only belief that a quaker was expected to have was a belief in pacifism

and they always met in a public building that was used for other thigs during the week… ie. they didn’t have their own space

so what this mental american as blathering on about just proves that she is totally uninformed about other faith groups and draws on stereotypes to justify herself

the worst kind of religious person that there is IMO

Ach, yes I know the ones u mean….THEY ARE WRONG!!!!!

As for picking the right kind of Christianity….if what you are believing in/doing is NOT BIBLICAL, it is NOT CHRISTIANITY!!!!!

If those people do not repent, yes they ARE going to end up in hell! Not everyone who call on God will be saved…..God sees the HEART!

BTW, just thought of it another way….God will not force Himself on anyone, so if you do not choose Him, when you die you get your wish – eternity without Him. It may sound good now…..wouldn’t be so sure when it comes down to it tho.

yes. the Society of Friends, otherwise known as Quakers. They tend to be a bit more subtle in their approach…

I agree with GL that (from my limited knowledge) of the quakers they are ‘very informal, no rituals – freestyle worship’,

but I was highlighting the difference I see
(from looking up your church on tinternet)

about what your all about compaired to quakers and it seems mighty different to me
    – hell and damnation – and preaching your way as the only way…..

that sounds like it’s just tring to scare people into beliving something imo

by ‘freestyle worship’ I meant charismatic….you are free to worship however you choose, be it silent or loud!

it must be great to have all the answers.

    I’m bored now

well would you say that what those people did was RIGHT????? I’m talking about the Westboro Baptist, nit the Quakers!!!!!!

here in England we already have trendy churches with rock music etc and even the Established Church (church of England) has tried to be a bit more right on…

there are youth missions for teenagers and you do get vicars what try to be more “down with the youth”, and who have come from more “urban” backgrounds. In particular we have street pastors who advise youths who have got themselves into trouble / overdone drink/drugs etc but they don’t do a lot of overt preaching or quote the Bible at them.

it is a totally different culture in this nation. Those who wish to attend religious groups are free to do so (whether they are Christian religions or those of the Eastern nations) or people are free to lead a secular life.

If people wish to preach or set up any sort of church/temple/mosque they must do so in accordance with wider societies rules (in public it is covered by council laws or what you call zoning laws). The laws are equal for all denomination.

Fundamentalist preaching in this country will either be ignored or investigated by the law enforcement authorities if there is the slightest suspicion that those involved are linked with any form or harrasment or violence.

People like those westboro baptists wouldn’t last 5 minutes here, the cops would drag them away to the cells (maybe for their own safety as the locals wouldn’t stand for it either).

our local Friends do have a hall (they must have bought it using the proceeds of agriculture a few hundred years ago) but they share the building with all manner of community groups, including secular radical campaign groups comprising anarchists and environmentalists!

if anyone thinks what these people claim to believe in is right they are on the wrong forum / planet IMHO :you_crazy:hopeless::yakk:

The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is a church headed

by fred phelps and based in Kansas USA The organization is

monitored by the anti defamation league and is classified as

    a hate group

The church runs numerous websites such as

    GodHatesFags.com, GodHatesAmerica.com and others

expression of comdemnation of homosexuality roman

catholics, muslims and jews , as well as populations it

Although well-known in LGBT communities for pickerting gay

pride events and funerals, the group achieved national

notoriety for picketing funeral processions for soldiers killed

in action during the iraq war

The church bases its work around the belief expressed by

its best known slogan and the address of its primary

website, “God hates fags,” and expresses the idea that

every tragedy in the world is linked to homosexuality

specifically society’s increasing tolerance and acceptance of

the “homosexual adgenda ” The group maintains that God

hates homosexuals above all other kinds of “sinners” and

that homosexuality should be a capital crime

Ah, I thought you were talking about the quakers – my bad

ours also own the meeting place, and is also used by our local peace council and CND for meetings, and also wicked jumble sales 😉

Here are the quotes from Jesus that proves that he lied:

    1) And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, `Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” (Matthew 21:21-22 NAS)

    2) Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8 NAB)

    3) Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. (Matthew 18:19-20 NAS)

    4) Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it shall be done for him. Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. (Mark 11:24-25 NAB)

    5) And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Luke 11:9-13 NAB)

    6) And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14 NAB)

    7) If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. (John 15:7 NAB)

    8) It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. (John 15:16 NAB)

    9) On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. (John 16:23-24 NAB)

A lot of Christians ignore what Jesus actually says in the Bible. They also tend to add things to the actual words to make them say something else. If you honestly and truthfully read these quotes, without adding to them, it is very easy to see that Jesus is not saying that God will think about your prayers. He says God will grant all your prayers. Clearly, God doesn’t grant all prayers and this proves that Jesus was a habitual liar.
