if you are talking about outside a public polling station like at yesterdays elections (where people go to vote), that would still be allowed in this country.
picketing a sexual health clinic at the private entrance would not.
TBH anyone hanging around such a place what wasn’t supposed to be there would be challenged and moved on as part of routine security procedures – especially with all the mobile phone cameras and miniature cameras around nowadays.
They may not even be religious campaigners but someone like a muck raking private detective or journalist who wanted to know who was using such services for other reasons.
Well, cell phones, video etc are NOT allowed! No signs or anything – not even printed Tshirts – there are even rules about what you can and cannot wear!
And yes, I was talking about outside a public polling place.
these days a camera could be concealed in the frame of spectacles, behind a tiny pin badge, behind a buttonhole.. you can buy all this kit online for a few hundred quid or less – and our reporters / private investigators / stalkers (the boundaries are ill defined with some of them) in this country are ruthless and determined…
thats where the line is drawn.
Here you can protest in the main street to make your issue aware to the general public (even with banners etc), or you can as part of an authorised and checked youth group (which can either be secular or faith based) advise girls/women (and boys!) about sex education/reproductive matters
It is however not acceptable for people to enter the private space of a sexual health clinic (including any access roads/alleyways) unless they are patients or relatives/friends attending with a patient. The authorities are simply balancing the right of one group to express their views/beliefs against anothers right to privacy.
The women who go to abortion clinics have gone through a lot already just to reach that decision, especially because of their maternal instinct kicking in.
To have people standing outside the clinics just looking at them going in is atrocious. The public will be drawn to the spectacle as it’s a curiosity to see people standing outside clinics with a word tapes across their mouths, and thus makes it even more difficult for the women to go in as people will be looking at them.
The whole point is so that they will NOT go through with it and give the child a chance at life!!!!!
religion aside – there will always be oposing views on this controversial topic.
some defend the womans right to make her own decision
some defend the babies right to life
but hey – differences in opinion is what makes the world go round…not sure what my point is here but there you go!
So once you’ve ensured the child is born- what then? Do you feed, cloth and educate the child (note: I said educate, NOT indoctrinate).
Or do you abandon them to exist by themselves, so a women who has made a mistake suddenly has the responsibility of another life on her hands where she may not even be able to look after herself?
There’s enough miserable children in this world with you forcing people to bring another one into it!
That’s what really makes me sick about fundamentalism- believe what you want, but praying on people when they are at their most vunerable and weak is just evil in my book.
And speaking of books- if you believe what you say about trying to make us see another point of view. PLEASE read ‘Richard Dawkins- The God Delusion’. If you can find any point in that book that does not make logical sense, I would be happy to discuss it with you.
Note again: I said logical.
Christ- it almost makes me want to go on to a christian website and try and convert them to athesim! If you ask me it’s not that much different from being a skag addict. At least there’s no pretence that you aren’t wasting your life away………..
Um, there are TONS of people who would be happy to ADOPT the child!!!!! You can’t just decide to NOT give them a chance….what if he/she grows up to be another Mother Teresa, or Madame Curie, or Einstein……..The woman never even has to look at the child if she doesn’t want to….there are all sorts of options open, open/closed adoptions…..abortion is MURDER.
Why does God have to be logical????? He is supernatural – ie outside the realm of human logic…’the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing….’
other than prayer in your church or at a place with sufficient distance from the clinic, in this country it is simply not seen as acceptable to try and make someone change their decision in this manner and extremely unlikely to work.
As I said most pregnant mums who can’t raise the child are already given advice on adoption etc, they are then given their free choice. The gravity of terminating a pregnancy is certainly not played down in this country, which already has a strong Christian church with close links to our government.
The only way you are allowed to give such advice in this country would be as a registered worker for something like a church group. There are already many groups in this country giving advice alongside or in conjunction with our existing public healthcare services.
What you do in the USA is your own business, but if you actually came to the UK and tried such a stunt as campaigning in the vicinity of any sexual health clinic, the authorities may well ask us to provide a copy of this thread to them in evidence.
Well, I am simply defending my views/beliefs in reply on this forum. I have never ACTUALLY participated in one of these events, although my husband has…..I am smart enough to not attempt any sort of ‘revolutionary’ action anywhere outside the US!

So what about the hundreds of thousands of starving kids in Africa (a continent that has been raped stupid by the west). Why not adopt them? Or do they not count because they are black?
I’m sorry, but I’ve completely lost any faith in having an intelligent conversation with you. In fact I don’t believe you are real!
If you are however, and your aim on coming to this site was to prove how small minded and bigoted most christians can be- then well done- you’ve succeeded fantastically.
In fact, you’ve cemented my belief that religion is a purely destructive force in this world that needs to be eradicated at all costs, and i intend to devote my life to this mission.
After I’ve sorted out the more immediate climatic problems of course.
:you_crazy
I am VERY real…..and I feel sorry for you. I DO have feelings….which are not in that great a shape right now but I digress…..
YOU seem to stereotype the Christian Conservatives as stupid bigoted idiots……have I EVER called ANYONE on here names or attacked your beliefs outright?????
If you do not believe I am real I challenge you to try my Yahoo IM….cmon…I assure you I am VERY real!!!!!
raaa
No I prefer to keep it all out in the open.
I know I’m starting to call you names, and I apologise. But you have made it very clear that you are pretty bigoted in your opinions, and it makes me angry.
You don’t like gay people, you don’t agree with a womens right to choose, you condem people for being who they are (how god made them prehaps?).
And at the end of the day- does it affect you at all? What business of yours is it how other people live their lives? Does it have any tiny affect on your day to day existance the choices that other people make to try and be happy- to live the life they choose?
No. But you insist on telling them that they are evil, that they will burn in hell.
Just makes me mad………
I cant agree at all on this one Amy
I’m all up for people demonstrating but when you are standing outside an abortion clinic whether it be a silent protest it is still intimidating and potentially threatening for those walking into the clinic, and is against individuals who are doing nothing that affects your life personally
just as any big group of people standing outside a clinic would be intimidating but even more so –
when they are standing personally in judgement of you!!!
every woman has the freedom of choice and it’s legal and thank fuck for that !!!!
– what we choose to do with our bodies has nothing to do with anyone else!!
whether you agree with it on a religious basis or not
you dont know what is going on with each individual – their story / what they’ve had to go through to make this decision
I am finding it very difficult to understand how someone who has gone through what you say you have can sit in judgement so harshly on others? is it just coz now your a christian? or is it coz your now pure as your born again… sorry but I just dont get it!!!!!!!! :you_crazy:hopeless:
Amy, if you really want someone to talk to who may be a bit more on your level try this dude

He’s a very intelligent man in his fifties who knows a lot about rocks and things and was trying to put across some theory about Stonehenge here in England, but lost himself by not actually engaging in debate about it, seems to have got a bit obsessed about the whole thing – he even bombards our public officials with emails etc so of course his campaign gets ignored. Mentioned Jesus a few times in his texts.
I get the impression though deep down he’s a decent chap what took too much drugs in the 1970s and went a bit crazy – maybe it would do good for some people in the same area to chat to him?
