Dang. Never got to see ‘Bottom’ live. Would no doubt have pissed myself too. I always do when watching it on tele.
Parsley the Lion
Hectors House
Tizwaz
Twin peaks
boys from the Blackstuff
Correct me if I’m wrong GoodDog but wasn’t ‘parsley the lion’ a character from ‘The Herbs’. http://www.davethewave.co.uk/theherbs/.:groucho:
“I’m a dog called Dill, I’m Dill the dog” tee hee, legendary.
I stand corrected:groucho: Still an ace prog though!
Definitely:groucho: Now that did bring up childhood memories.
actually the bulk of these old shows (other than pre-1980s kids shows intended for live TX [1]) are still in archives and during the 1990s and early 2000s most were transferred to broadcast video servers (a big machine like a cross between our streaming media server and a hard disk recorder).
This is how all the “UKTV” and Granada plus type channels operate
many are now being released on DVD so you can still watch them…
so perhaps the nostalgia is more for the better content quality of a lot of these shows?
When you had the 16 ITV companies and more BBC in house programming the “mainstream” shows could cross-subsidise more expensive/commercially risky projects such as kids or youth TV, or regional programmes which bred new talent before people were forced into exhibitionism on reality TV to try and get a presenters job…
Now with everything done by indies a lot of the money in TV leaks away to a few “big stars” (both celebs and business management) which actually stifles innovation and creativity (also a lot of celebs basically “buy” their own airtime by starting up their own indie and acting as executive producers of their own vanity projects!)
which is why telly in this country is so fucking crap these days as its all dependent on sponsorship and funding from big corporates, so no company is willing to take too many real risks with new talent/projects..
[1] as the videotapes were too expensive in those days (big 2″ reels of tape!)
Kickstart
Krypton Factor
Battle of the Planets
Tomorrows world (old style)
Street Hawk
..I’m sure there are more.
Yeah GL I used to watch a fair few kids progs well in to my late teens. Also used to watch the educational kids programmes late at night/early morning.
Blackadder
A-Team
Dukes Of Hazzard
X-Files (In the style of the first series)
Round The Twist
Bullseye
Airwolf
Hey you’ve got sky! Surely you must see most of these anyway. Well. Blackaddder, A-Team and Airwolf at least. 😉
bullseye has been brought back by Challenge TV!
Dave Spikey is hosting it (Jim Bowen is probably too doddery and old now and his career has been on the slide since he made some dubious comments on live radio (a mic was open and he didn’t check)
Not sure which studios they use as ATV/Central Birmingham studios closed in 1997 and is totally gutted out now (was watching a youtube video of some people going round the empty building!) – CEN Nottiingham got sold to some university as well…
