The Aiwa midi system wouldn’t be too bad either. Since the 90s they often used Sony components and the company was eventually bought by Sony, though the brand has been ceased and the assets transferred to Sony.
The models sold in Britain were usually made in Malaysia (the factory was set up in the mid 1990s, I remember the local papers mentioning it when I was out there on holiday) – I think still exists but makes Sony equipment) because the same 230V electric supply is used there as the UK and Europe. The core market was young people in both Asia and Europe who couldn’t afford Sony kit and the speakers were made to sound good and loud especially for electronic music. Today though Sony makes more affordable equipment, and gadgets made in Malaysia are considered to be as good as those made in Japan hence this brand disappearing.
