Seems like a good idea to be fair, just because they are there doesn’t mean all the students will overdo it and there are far worse (and unsafe) places for them to be hanging around late at night…
they mentioned folk are quietly crashing out in the corner after nights partying, could also be a good way for those who take stimulants to deal with not being able to sleep, they might even learn more stuff from reading the books 😉

My uni is already like this and I have been there all night thanks to stimulants. You get so much work done, such an excellent idea! Especially since I’m more efficient at night for some reason.
Wish the library at my uni was open 24 hours! We have a ‘learning zone’ thing which is basically a library with no books in it which is open 24 hours a day and you can go there to study but I find the atmosphere in there a lot less conducive to actually getting anything done, it just feels like the waiting area in an airport rather than a study area lol.
Libraries still exist ? WOW We all know video killed the radio star in the 80s, but I thought in the 2000s internet had killed books too

A lot of people do actually work far better at night, plus it is most likely to be quieter and with less distractions.
One thing i’ve always wondered if it is still possible for non-students or those from other universities to get into another institutions library facilities? OK they are unlikely to be able to borrow books or other items but throughout the 80s and 90s it was easy enough to wander around a large part of any university campus provided you looked like a student and weren’t blatantly acting dodgy, and even in high school/sixth form you were often encouraged to visit the library of a local University to get the idea of what it was like in there.
But nowadays there seem to be all kinds of smartcards and electronic locks on campus and rentaguards everywhere (or maybe thats just the case at the local one here because it started out as a tech college)

Well we have ID cards and electronic gate type things similar to what you’d get at a train station at my college so i’d assume universities would have them aswell.
To be honest it is a great idea though, would solve insomnia caused by stimulants..
At my uni the library is open to the public although they can’t access all of the same resources as far as I know, the study area I mentioned before is just for students and that has the electronic gate things.
its really helpful for student who want to study in the library
