It works by “turning off” a person’s need to sleep, and allowing them to remain mentally awake for days on end.

Its makers say there are no side effects, but experts are worried about the drug being abused.

In the US, where it is easier to get hold of, revising students and clubbers are known to use it to keep going.

Speaking after Wednesday’s hearing in Westminster, Dr Casey said Modafinil had been tested by Qinetiq, formerly known as the Defence Research Agency, in conjunction with caffeine.

It had not yet been approved for use by British soldiers but Qinetiq had asked the MoD for funds to carry out further tests, she said.

“It is worthy of further research,” she told the BBC News website.

sounds like fun,but i dont see how you can stay awake for days without getting a bit trippy, think that would take out some of the fun aspect, sober as a judge for days with no sleep

If you stay awake for more than 24 hours it affects how you perceive information and behave – whether you want it to or not :you_crazy:you_crazy:you_crazy

So there is no way they will be as sober as a judge….even if thats the desired effect:groucho:

could make an individual perform certain actions with precision day in day out

    but not without consequence

Doubt weather the army are that bothered about the long term effects at the moment, just want a quick fix to try and get them back on top of the war.
I’d love to use the people in charge as guinnee(?) pigs for a change.
Lock old tony and bush in a room with lots of mirrors, force feed them a load of acid, play them the crap we get to hear on the news constantly 24/7.Now that would be an interesting experiment :satisfied

this has happened before in World War II and perhaps other more recent military engagements, completely overtly at least until the late 1960s where the open sale of amfetamine-type drugs were restricted by UN agreement.

Both Churchill and Hitler were heavy users of amfetamines during World War II as were most of the munitions factory workers.

Anthony Eden (who made the disastrous decision to enage in Suez 50 years ago) admitted to “living on Benzedrine” to keep him going. The Kennedys were also heavy users.

It didn’t exactly spread peace and love throughout the world in those days…

Tiredness will kick in anyway, as will the emotional disturbances of comedowns.

Its merely a plan to extend the “usability” of troops with a highly increased risk of bad decisions including “friendly fire”, fighting within units and abuse of civilians and prisoners.

From personal experience I have noticed if you give acid to people who have anger and aggression inside them it may just as often make them worse rather than better..

I expect it would merely re-inforce their own ideas of self-importance and the fear of the enemy and lead to all-out nuclear war..

IS THAT THE SAME SHIT AS PROVIGIL I GOT THAT PRESCRIBEB TO ME FOR DETOXING HEROIN SO I COULD MOVE AROUND IN THE DAYTIME. SO THERE IS NO RECREATIONAL USE FOR IT RIGHT? ANY ONE WANT SOME? JUST KIDDING
