  • Babergh is a small District Council in South Suffolk. I expect few people outside the area even knows they exist!

This, however is an excellent idea. you can check every venues license, its permitted hours, capacity etc. So the everything is transparent to citizens and if you are putting on an event you can choose the most suitable venue, and there is no risk of ambguity about its legality (such as the issues which befell hall parties elsewhere in the region).

if they merge with Mid Suffolk I hope this is extended to this region…

Suffolk Coastal has an online licensing check system as well (not as user friendly as Babergh)

Mid Suffolk, Ipswich and Waveney don’t have theirs online, you have to check with the venue managers or the Council..

here’s forest heath (Bury St Edmunds) – although some well known places are missing – they haven’t had any events lately either, maybe they’ve closed?

Actully a very good idea. Does it inculde contact numbers of the venues aswell? There always a bugger to get when your trying to book a small village hall. Do you no if other countys are doing this, namely norfolk? Im thinking i could maybe produce one of these for my A2 computing project. Would help out alot of my friends and me also with a good grade :).

    Some do and some don’t.

What they will show is the name of the premises license holder/and or that of the village hall committee… you can then google for info on the hall committee..

in the village I work in (in Mid Suffolk) the contact info for the hall committee is published in some local community magazine and I think its on the “one suffolk” website…

ironically the old bill claim that some folk are booking the halls with false details and the events go over capacity and damage happens hence certain events being treated as illegal raves, but if everyone is honest the worst what could happen is they refuse the booking and then a honest discussion can be had in the community about where dance music enthusiasts are supposed to host their events….

I think its nationwide as I found the license of Poly’s favourite takeaway and he’s in SE England..

Here’s the register for South Norfolk. I don’t know the names of all the district councils in Norfolk to find the rest…
