good news, bearing in mind that the cops can’t be expected to simply ignore drugs laws just because people have asked permission to use the land..
Police have withdrawn their objection to a planned “legal rave” after organisers ramped up security measures to prevent a repeat of drugs problems witnessed at last year’s event.
The Unity Tribe festival at Cockley Cley Warren, near Swaffham, is being planned by a team of volunteers as a social enterprise, with all profits from the dance and techno music event given to local charities or environmental causes.
A licensing application submitted to Breckland Council requests permission to provide live music, dancing facilities and the sale of alcohol between 8pm on Saturday, September 11, until 2pm the following afternoon.
Norfolk police’s licensing officer Tony Grover originally objected to the application, saying that the event management plan (EMP) did not include sufficient measures to ensure a “safe and drug-free environment”.
His letter to Breckland’s licensing department said, although there was no serious disorderly behaviour, the free flow of festival-goers between the arena and the car park in 2009 meant the supply and use of illegal drugs could not be effectively prevented.
But now Mr Grover has said he is satisfied that an amended version of the EMP, drafted by security firm Event Guard, had resolved those issues, so he would withdraw his representation.
Interesting. Are some security firms favoured over others when applications get considered for the go ahead? Do the police advise on which ones are best to use?

it would be very hard to tell without spending some considerable time going through every license application for a region.
IME (knowing a few crews who put on events) all the cops seem to want is security firms who are SIA registered and not too closely linked to the promoters, to prevent the old trick of drugs being “recycled”. Although I’m sure if people are so naïve they cannot find a good one the cops will suggest their own (obviously a cop-friendly one made out of ex-officers)
unfortunately it appears that when a “lighter touch” stance was taken in 2009 people were clearly a bit too blatant about their drug use when it would be obvious to anyone with half a brain that both uniformed cops and CID will be scrutinising the event, same as any other large entertainment event…
I did go last year however its a shame that some people take the piss with there drug use….
Im going this year hopefully they have an understanding security firm and not one of these ones full of pricks who are there to boost there own egos and not keep the event safe.
the hearing was cancelled as the OB removed their objections, presumably this means that the full PEL is granted and the event is going ahead…
License granted …. Event guard seem to be a well-organised local security company which do security for a lot of Norwich mainstream venues. I have no idea what they are like “on the frontline” as I have not been anywhere near Norwich for years. From what I have read of them so far I expect they will do their job well – perhaps “better” than some folk might want for a “rave” atmosphere, but what else can people expect?

Event guard are a bunch of dicks as far as ive seen. They beat one of my mates up very badly because he was pissed and ran his mouth off. I thought security was ment to be above beating someone shitless because they said something about there mum etc. Still unity tonight raaa
they are SIA registered guards, your mate is perfectly entitled to make a formal complaint against them and the venue owners for using more than reasonable force to eject him, though they might also make a counterclaim about him being drunk (an offence in itself).
often in these situations a single guard attacks someone and the others feel “duty bound” to “back him up” – the same happens with old bill and even normal people in fights/disagreements and is the cause of many Court cases..
of course if he does cost someone their job it could make it “unsafe” for him to go out in the city again – but in this area with a small world in a economic depression the same could also happen for anyone complaining against a worker, even in a shop etc..
I’m not saying in any way EA is as violent as London / SE England (where I used to live) but many people seem to be quite opinionated and on a short fuse, civillians and security guards/cops alike and people seem to kick off for stupid reasons..
