  • The main street cordon has been removed but the club is on formal closure until further notice – and the mobile Police station still there.

I hope whoever did this is caught and given at least 5 years – not only have they hurt someone and used illegal weapons they have also cost the community a venue and put more stress on the Emergency Services when the area was already on major incident protocol due to the weather…

    ungdomshus: awesome!

ICA: :(. i guess its pretty fucked then but we can still hope 😉 this was completely unnecessary and has caused a right fuckup to the community

putting aside the stupidity of the conservatives and religious types in Denmark, we should simply follow what they did across the North Sea when they relocated the area the Ungdomshus was in…

its clear the ICA has outgrown its location and is attracting the “wrong sort of people” as well as good people. looking at the place in daylight I think it was originally some sort of Council office (there is the Royal Coat of Arms on the top of the building!) what was pressed into service 20-30 years ago when multiculturalism first appeared in Britain.

However today it is no longer fit for purpose, all the space there is not properly used, it is hard to have late night music events there without annoying people as its too near some old peoples sheltered housing, and next to a dangerous main road (seen way more people nearly get run over outside there than get beaten up). we need a venue outside the town centre but not so far away people end up driving long distances whilst not sober (i.e something people could cycle to)

its proper weird actually, this family we met on holiday were actually from ipswich, my mums pretty good mates wiv em now, and it turns out this womans dad founded the ICA!

i agree actually – its not the prime location!

Liz Harsant, the leader of Ipswich Council has called for the venue to be relocated and the officer in charge of the investigation is Detective Chief Superintendent David Cutler, who is responsible for policing “the night time economy”.

according to the media many people involved in that brawl were older than me – yet its the younger people who lose out – they are going to have to find another venue…..

IPSWICH: A shooting victim’s mother today told of her relief after her son escaped serious injury when he was wounded by a gunman.

The woman asked not to be named as the family fear reprisals if they are identified following the violence which broke out at the Caribbean Club in Woodbridge Road leaving five people injured.

The victim, who is believed to be in his 40s and lives in Ipswich, was shot in the groin early Saturday morning while trying to protect another man.

He was driven to hospital by a friend, but was discharged the same day after treatment.

His parents – also from Ipswich – only discovered he had been wounded when his mother returned from a trip to London.

She said: “My husband was on the telephone. Somebody had rung to tell us. As I came in he told me my son had got shot.

“I was shaking. I didn’t know what to do, or if I should cry. We went straight to see him.”

was it some kind of hiphop event? I assume it wasn’t a rave

it was a bashment/rare groove/rnb/urban type event. Unfortunately a lot of people what attend these events do also call them “raves” – and this often leads policemen, (who are usually not experts on dance music genres [1]) to tar all events called raves with the same brush.

[1] apart from “PC Hardcore” of Suffolk Constabulary….

No iea what bashment or rave groove is are but I can imagine. Whos PC Hardcore?

urban music community around ipswich / surrounding areas seems very bad – lots of wannabes thinking they are bad, too much “respect” that means nothing seems to be propagating – lots of frustration and people trying to prove themselves… people arguing over pathetic things and shit like this happens – i havent seen voilence at any other event.

there seems to be rivalry between schools /areas also so people carry on these prejudices into their late teen life and it turns into real voilence rather than name calling

also lots of domestic voilence / not enuff girls to go round which causes trouble after exes go off with rivals

Rare groove is old Northen Soul type music from the 1960s/1970s, which made a revival in the 1980s (also spawning modern imitations)

“PC Hardcore” is a cop my a friend of mine briefly spoke to in 2007, who used to be a raver and then left in the mid 1990s and joined Suffolk Constabulary.

He didn’t divulge his reasons for doing this, which may be understandable not because its any “dark conspiracy” but as he seemed like an decent enough human being and I fear something really negative must have happened to have made him do that.

TBH I think its just the standard “youth culture” now and the music is only secondary. That said cops and the rest of society brought this all on themselves, if they’d tolerated the rave scene a bit more OK there would be drugs problems but it was less violent.

now they have violence and drug addiction to deal with.

i suppose – as its said… people who like rnb dont even like music they just in it for the culture :/

The Carribean club lost its funding yesterday, in part due to the aftermath of the shooting but they also did not submit an adequate business plan..
