I’m glad I don’t work for EDF, this is about the sixth man blown up on the job in two years :you_crazy:hopeless:
The advice came from energy supplier EDF Energy yesterday after the blast in Chelmsford which killed one of the company’s workers.

Innit, well fucked up that is. Poor bloke eh :hopeless:
can’t help but think this is the product of privatisation
I’ve not heard of substation explosions until the 1990s and this often happens due to contaminated cooling oil and old equipment (from the 1940s/50s) still often being in use…
i was in work yesterday when this happened .. and this girl in the office lives in chelmsford right next to the powerplant … she left early to make sure her cat was still alive .. then just as she was leaving it dawned on her to phone her parents to see if they were ok >.<
from some of the family tales I hear at work this doesn’t surprise me one bit, tends to be a alternate love/hate thing with families in the East
best part of it is the cat would have either slept through the whole thing, hidden somewhere safe, or sat on a post or other high place just looking annoyed at humans for giving it a fright/waking it up and filling the air with rank smoke…

i think she just forgot about her parents .. but i guess that the cat must meen more to her then them for her to do that ..:you_crazy
by a strange coincidence I found a old book about electrical installations and there are 3 full pages about transformer oil and all the Bad Things that can happen to it
one nasty is when the transformer is overloaded and sparks occur where the bits carrying electric are inside the oil
this energy is enough to “crack” the heavy oil into smaller fractions similar to petrol , also acetylene is produced in an environment with large electric sparks – KABOOM!….

acethylene is bad enuff in the proper “safe” enviroments its used :hopeless:
another transformer blown up in SE London today – thankfully it appears no one was hurt or killed but bare chaos with all the electric trains etc stopped..
