The British Government requested the release of all five men in August after previously refusing to intervene as they were not British citizens.
Jamil el-Banna, Omar Deghayes and Abdenour Samuer will come back to the UK, while Shaker Abdur-Raheem Aamer will return to his native Saudi Arabia.
Campaign group Amnesty International said the news was “extremely welcome”.
Why are we calling them residents not inmates?

Maybe the BBC have confused Guantanamo with the camp in Hi De Hi?
Remember they are not prisoners of war (:you_crazy). They are terrorists….so they want to avoid any reference to them actually being in prison. Hence them calling the places Camp Delta and Camp Iguana nad not referring to them as prisons (IMO). So they don’t have to apply the Geneva Convention or even US laws.
but they arent terrorists, innocent till proven guilty and they havent been put on trial yet,a fter so many years
or at least thats what it was like when i watched dispatches bowt a year ago
Ah but since 11/9 (I’m not american so I refuse to put the month first) they can now detain terror suspects indefinatley and all this pish.
So by calling them terrorists they get arround having to apply the Geneva convention adn also don’t have to let them go.
its ridiculous innit, was this the patriot act? and our equivalent is the terrorism act?
n neither of them are limited to terrorism, rave crews been charged under terrorism act innit, fuckin pathetic
usin the fear of terrorism and speculation/media-hype (i’d be more scared of gettin blown up back in the IRA days) to make people support laws that destroy our civil liberties
Nice to know they are getting out but what about all the rest of them?
Detained with no basic human rights as per international law and no access from any impartial observers :hopeless:
