    Quote:
An Alresford man who organised an illegal rave at Crabwood, Farley Mount near Winchester last year, has been fined £300 and ordered by pay costs of £200 by Andover Magistrates.

James Robert Peter Dean, 21, of Vernal Cottages, Spring Lane, Alresford, appeared before the magistrates on Wednesday (September 15).

He was taken to court for organising the unlicensed event held on October 31 2003.

On the night in question, police made four visits to the site during a five hour period before the event was closed down. Four people were arrested for public order offences.

Sergeant Bill Ord said: “We are pleased with this result and hope it shows how seriously we take this type of offence. Raves can cause misery to those nearby due to excessive noise and disruption.

“We also hope this sends a clear message to those who hold or attend illegal raves that they will not be tolerated and we will take action.”

Inspector Steve Sargent added: “The police are not out to spoil party-goers’ fun just for the sake of it but, whenever a rave takes place, thousands of people are kept awake all night; the disturbance usually carries on well into the following day and the public are denied access to the site – which is usually a recreational area.

“Also, at raves there is usually no provision for crowd safety, toilets, parking or clearing up litter at the end. For these reasons, the police are given the power to close parties such as this.

“At Crabwood in particular, the sound carries to Winchester and to the surrounding villages, and the area has been declared to be a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

“Hampshire Police have access to information which alerts us to the time and place of forthcoming raves and, throughout the summer, we allocate extra officers to preventing illegal raves. If the rave does not materialise, these officers are diverted to foot patrol in town centres.

“This case shows we are prepared to take swift action against the organisers of these events, and that we can identify them, prosecute them, and seize their equipment – the result being increased peace and safety for the public.”

not sure where they get the idea “public denied access to the site”. The organisers can’t help it if people are frightened of them for some bizzare reason (I have never known locals to be threatened or approached aggressively by partygoers!)

hi i know the guy who was nicked for this last year,he still hasnt got his gear back and is banned from playing in hampshire,,i sent a reply to the local paper at the time funnily enough they didnt print it,,all support to james though cause he is a blinding guy, who just likes playing his stuff till ridiculoushours in the mornin giving everyone a good time with a nice vibe,,shame though that the police see it from their point and not ours, still we must all be careful, especially as we want a bit more choice then clubbing with certain individuals who just like to go out for a weekend punch up,huge respect to anyone who throws a free party, know some of these guys and the huge effort they put in to make sure we all have the chance to a bloody good nite should be hugely applauded,,long may it go on

p.s. been to a few partys at farley mount shame its a hot spot now cos it has been used a few times bloody good venue aswell,,cant see how the public heard as i was sat on a corner in the middle of nowhere for ages waiting for mates to find me and couldnt hear a thing but there you go police have gotta make it sound good

it got used for the may moot this year – I couldn’t hear that much outside but I think its more likely people driving past and dog walkers who often call the old bill and complain…

wouldnt it be weird to find that probably most of the people on here who we assume we dont know we have probably danced next to or even spoke to out and about parties and such like my thought for the day

Misery my arse. That’s a bit of a strong word. The places most parties are organised in are far enough away from civilisation that only should you be straining your ears whilst leaning out of your window could you hear the tiniest echo of a high hat.

Thousands of people awake… pffft! I’ve never heard of anyone organising a rave in an urban back garden.

That’s a bit sad like. Farley Mount’s a top location (May Moot was sweet) and miles away from anywhere. I have noticed a real change in the Old bill’s attitude towards parties and party people in Hampshire and Wiltshire this year. Kinda sucks.
The amount of money and police hours they waste trying to stop us from enjoying ourselves away from the rest of this fucked up society is just a joke.
Still they’ll never crush our spirit.
And fair play to one and all who put on the parties 😀

been resarching the events leading up to this clampdown; from what I have found (a lot of police and local government meeting minutes are on the public internet now) it did happen because the locals kept moaning to the old bill that “not enough was being done”, particularly in the Farley Mount area. There is some sort of parish council there (a kind of League of Gentlemen style affair) that has been constantly complaining to hantspol about these raves since about 1999. presumably these people aren’t so stupid as not to realise that they end up paying for the cost of these operations through their council tax, so I can only assume these middle england fools are quite happy to pay for this.

i went to my first party ever @ farley mount. or was it a new forest job? aww one of the 2 lol.

and if its getting too hot…

    damn.

    bollocks.

    arse

    feck

    :cries:

The way the rural economy operates is gonna change drastically. as the old style european agricultural subsidies disappear a lot of land will will go out of business and passing into the ownership of banks whilst various parties argue about whose farm it is… we all know what happens here 😀

And given the way the pro-hunt terrorists are carrying on I wonder if the old bill are going to take their sides quite as often? IME they are perfectly happy to abandon those who are perceived as “anti-police” and to let “street justice sort things out” – but this could be a rather savage way of going about things as there are angry people with access to firearms on both sides – might be “bare armshouse in da country innit?”

I’d like to also think that though in at least one part of this land the community as a whole (including farmers/landlords, party crews, locals, cops, bureaucrats) could get together round a table come to a positive agreement on holding a “tolerated” teknival style event somewhere in the UK, as has been done in other EU states.

Might be over-optimistic but then again I don’t think any government really wants a full on civil conflict over the different views on rural land use which could well be the alternative…

Bloody Conservative Towns – (Sorry, not generalising) Hants OB have taken a tough stance in the last couple of years on parties and the ravers.

The fight continues between Good and Evil :bounce_ci
