TBH I think the magazine and its reporters have shown a high level of integrity by exposing this, even if it “hurts the scene”.
As for the unfortunate woman it was equally courageous of her to write to the magazine and expose the realities of being interested in electronic dance music today. in reality if you like any kind of “harder” or “drug friendly” dance music those what disagree with drug use, even if they are the same age group as you will judge and if they don’t take matters into their own hands in a unpleasant manner will report you to the authorities if they feel you are transgressing social boundaries. I’ve seen this happen to both men and women on this scene over the last decades. As disagreeable as the ASBO closure on her house was I can see how it happened, as similar things have happened to other single mums I know in my old city.
She was most likely inviting loads of folk round to loud afterparties, being “shameless” about her involvement in music, partying and drugs, and as the nightlife scene is increasingly male dominated the neighbours jumped to conclusions but that will happen on packed urban estates if you don’t “fit in” or look “dodgy”. I live on one and folk do have a sense of morals and integrity on these estates, more than others think, and a lot of people aren’t idiots and have seen the darker side of the 1990s rave scene already because they weren’t in a haze of MDMA…
I know that if when I get my driving license I were to purchase a second hand Merc (someone down the street was selling one) and then keep returning at random hours in this noisy vehicle with a new young lady companion every weekend, and blast out Tiësto tunes at 3am, I would soon enough have a bobby or 3 + Suffolk youth safeguarding unit visit me and my friends. (Fear not, I have no intention of doing this, and I prefer more underground stuff than Tiësto)
