  • Unfortunately this cannot be explained away by a rise in reporting or different methods, as this is an actual count of bodies 🙁

The number of women killed by violent partners has risen dramatically in a year, figures showed today.
Home Office statistics show that at least 101 women died in 2009 at the hands of a husband, boyfriend or ex-partner, up from at least 72 the year before.

I wonder why? I can imagine there being some chavy provoking women that’d really piss people off but killing them is a bit extreme.

Maybe recession has something to do with the husbands killing.

one factor definitely is the economic depression – quite often these crimes are family massacres (entire family being killed) by a man whose lost his business/job and self-esteem. unfortunately in a capitalist world men are only valued on either their money making skills or physical strength (or perhaps both).

Just recently i had a look at a few of my friends and just saw how materialistic they’d become and even myself to an extent and it kind of sickens me.

    Hi all ,
Thats a worrying trend , something i’d like to see stop altogether .

can you get info on further previous years GL? it’d be interesting to compare it over a longer time stretch.

might take a while as I will need to contact the womens aid charity and they will be busy over Christmas as its a peak time for serious domestic violence.

TBH I suspect the situation is worse overall – although the level of all homicides (against all ages/genders) have been falling, one reason is only because the NHS are getting better at saving lives of those crime victims who have been seriously injured and would previously have died.

Another is that whilst fatal violence between strangers is decreasing, most homicide victims are known to their attackers – I’ve been following a number of cases and there are loads where friends have fallen out with one another, had a fight and its led to serious or fatal injuries. and intimate relationships are also more fragile than ever before. even the most solid couples I know are all splitting up, mostly due to money problems and/or being dissatisfied with life as there’s less drugs and less parties in this area..

I definitely think “friends” are quicker to fall out and even have physical fights than ever before. A couple of years ago a chap I know got started on by folks he was mates within in high school for no rational reason – OK there was a bit of a racial element but it had never been a issue before (and he wasn’t even Asian/Muslim so the world events couldn’t be blamed for it) :you_crazy

a common trend in harder economic times I thought 🙁 not good

How does any man think that to solve his problems ….’ oh ill just beat my wife to an inch of her life or worse ‘ like thats gonna change a thing . Maybe be better for them to walk away and give themselves a slap .

    regards
    Mungo
ps if they like ill meet them and give them a slap …..i got big hands whaack !!!!! :-O

There’s a recent rise in people thinking its OK to bully and intimidate anyone (not just their partners), and its not just the economic depression, it started even during relatively good economic times in the early 2000s. There’s a lot of blokes who actually do research and take strong action to ensure they are in control in business, relationships, the lot – and they don’t all look like your average EDL knuckledragger either. Most of the time its mental intimidation but when someone physically less strong tries to be assertive its matched with pure aggression.

One thing that is also happeing is husbands our grandparents age (yes, even mine and mongos grandparents) are murdering their wives recently. I don’t mean euthanasia due to illness as feds/NHS know how to spot this (obvious when someone is ill) – I mean real nasty violence. Seen about 5 such cases in metpol and essex area alone in the last few months. I think this might be pushing up the numbers as well.

These scum have probably been getting away with escalating domestic violence since the 1970s, as people are quick to judge “chav families” but not “nice old couples” and have bided their time until they are old as they can try and pass it off as senile dementia or other illnesses. Thankfully we have good CSI and medical records these days..

    Hi General Lighting ,
Its a sad state of affairs , i dont get this big bully/asert yourself thing . I find to get the best results just treat peole right and with respect it always works for me . Yes people will do as they are told through fear , but most people have a breaking point and will stand up against this eventually . If you give respect you get it back , thats how i see it anyway .

    regards

If it’s that much hastle I wouldn’t bother mate.

I think it’s statisticaly more likely that you win the lottary then get murdered by a stranger!

I’d only need to call or email the charity press office in London on Monday – I reckon they will be fairly approachable when I explain why I want to know as there is a massive effort to stop the increase in DV amongst younger couples from their teens to 40s and people here are supportive (unlike many other forums and social networks popular with young people).

well it might be interesting for other people as well .. so go for it it you’re ok with it. 🙂

Violence levels have been increasing for decades, its no mystery as to why scientists and experts even knew in advance that this would happen.

Its unlikely that much will be done to prevent it and the long term effects (every generation is more violent because they are raised by more violent parents) just gets worse with each generation.

The single largest contributing factor to violence and aggression is not poverty, drugs, weapons, religion, minorities or anything in the likes of that. Its actually media violence. This is much thanks to the fact that nearly every family owns a TV and is influenced by it.

I think the best solution to the problem is information. Most people understand children should not be watching porn, if they also understood they should not be watching violence it would go a long way.
TV and media violence is like matches, can be both a useful tool or a hazard depending on wether the user is aware of the potential risks and dangers.

The military has been aware of all this for a long time and they know a lot about killing and violence and all the psychological aspects of it. Some of them have a message or a plea to parents and society, “stop teaching our kids to kill”.

If you wish to learn about media violence I recommend Killology Research Group, A Warrior Science Group: Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman, Author – Jonesboro, Arkansas , Dave Grossman is perhaps the biggest expert on the subject (what influences and affects humans ability to kill)
