Eight nightclubs closed by police
Eight London nightclubs have been closed because of a “risk to public safety”, police have confirmed.
Scotland Yard said the nightclubs, which are all based in the City of Westminster, have been shut since Monday to protect the public.
Officers did not give a reason for the closures but said it was not linked to terrorism.
Westminster City Council said it was aware of the investigation and would be liaising with the police on Thursday.
‘Intelligence received’
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Following intelligence received, we contacted representatives of eight nightclubs in Westminster on Monday who volunteered to close for business.
“At this time we consider the risk to public safety is still such that we must continue to request that the venues remain closed.”
He said the situation would be reviewed on Thursday.
The City of Westminster covers Soho, Mayfair and The Strand.
