OK comparatively few people decide to join the Police after they’ve given up partying, but many more others might decide a job is worth submitting to a drugs test, (for instance someone might want to work in public transport), and particularly older men might not have as much hair as they once did, so this is a welcome decision against discrimination..
BBC News – Bald man wins police hair drug test appeal
A bald man whose application to join the police was rejected because he did not have enough hair for a drugs test has successfully appealed the decision.
It is understood he was at an advanced stage of the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s recruitment process when problems arose over the testing.
Because of his baldness, he could not give them hairs of up to 3cm in length.
He was also unable to provide about 200 body hairs as an alternative.
PSNI lawyers told the High Court in Belfast he would be reinstated in the recruitment process. Policies will also be changed to ensure other sources of DNA analysis are included.
Dreads and hair drug tests are unfair, theres 7 years of evidence on my head grrrr. Must remember never to live in Dubai

it doesn’t say, but I stagger a guess that he did until he shaved it all off because he wanted to get into the force but knew he would fail a test.
Though there are medical reasons for lack of hair, depends if the pic on the news report is real as he clearly has stuble.
The news report wouldn’t show the real person for security reasons, bear in mind he’s applying to be a copper in a part of the UK where there is still an unresolved civil war!
if anything getting into PSNI would be harder than other UK police services for the same reasons, and if he’d shaved all his hair off it would be obvious at the medical..
I think he must have genuine medical reasons and the real argument is more that its not acceptable for an employer to make someone go through a more painful or complicated procedure, nor refuse their legitimate application simply because of a medical condition which doesn’t otherwise prevent him doing the job.
the other option would be to abandon the requirement for drug testing – maybe not feasible for the Police but the more costly and rule-bound drug testing is made its the sort of thing what make private sector companies think twice about implementing it, so its a good thing this has happened..
