whilst people are understandably worried about threats from one set of extremists, another “home grown” set of extremist criminals have actually killed two soldiers and a cop on UK territory, wounded innocent peoplesuch as pizza delivery men, the cops on both sides of the border are apparently looking for a bomb (which they haven’t yet found) and no-ones commented on this – its dangerous IMO to run away from bad news, particularly when its delivered at the point of a gun…
its not good i know, but i think its a sign of how much violence, bad news and war etc is going on and being reported at the mo, most people are becoming desensitized(sp?) to it or are not suprised by stuff like this as there is already so much going on if you know what i mean…
true, but its meant that people have had their energies taken up by a (currently) lesser threat whilst a greater one has actually caused real deaths on UK territory.
also extremists worldwide know that people are desensitised (this is after all a world where people upload incidents of violence to youtube for fun and entertainment) so will “raise the bar” by scaling up their activities until they get more publicity…

They’d have to do something pretty amazingly horrific to beat 9/11..
I expect some group somewhere in the world will try…
The Indian attacks were bad enough, India actually didn’t have the surveillance / state infrastructure a nation of that size normally has but their authorities are now implementing it (and I’m sure all those brainy computer programmers and engineers could do a much better job of it than our IT industry has done!)
That said I think the Irish attacks are actually more linked with organised criminal gangs – the old RUC was obviously heavily occupied with dealing with the Troubles, and they simply don’t want the new PSNI to have the spare resources to bust their rackets which is what is obviously starting to happen with less real violence in NI.
I get the impression a lot of people there on both sides fully enjoyed being the “hard man” during the troubles and are angry that their former leaders have dared try and work for peace!
One of the dead soldiers was Middle Eastern/Asian, the dead cop was a Catholic and the injured pizza guy was Polish…
