5 more arrests. One in West midlands area, a female associated with suspect 5. Two more in the London area, two males and two females . The three females have been arrested for “assisting an offender”

8 people are now in custody for this offence…

worrying though that so many girls are prepared to stand by violent men… (again though matches up with what globalloon is saying, if kids have grown up in a violent household they see this as normal.. 🙁 )

Very good points being mentioned now and I agree that families should be THE main role model but most are needing to shown how to be ‘good role models’ to their children (I am not saying this is the only and main factor in societies problems though). The government is needing to provide the network of support that can help to do this!!! And very valid point about the health visitors etc, my friend has two grils aged 5(nearly 6 and hearing about it!!) and her other gril being 8yrs old and they have two very different personalities to which my friend was finding the youngest a bit of a handful, so she asked for some advice from the social work/health visitors and I am afraid she was told your children are not under threat of abuse etc so they would not help her

But I do not agree with the comment about girls staying with violent men… do you not think that perhaps they are just as scared??? These violent men are more than likely bullies to their partners as well!! I am not saying that this is the case in every situation but still you cannot lump people in one category… sorry that was me on a rant about an entirely different subject :shy:

no, its very much linked to this case, and the trouble that is occuring at street level and even sometimes at parties…

they probably are scared – and are being bullied by their current partners – but there is a trend of girls going back to wanting “macho” type males, many of whom may seem nice at first meetings but then eventually turn out to be posessive and violent.

Its usually the “smooth, confident” bloke who turns out to be the violent one

yet lads often see these scum pulling loads of girls, this is unsurprisingly causing a street culture amongst younger males which is returning to the 1970s “traditional” gender values (not a good thing!)

I am shocked at some of the things young lads say about girls on other messageboards – teenagers that is, not 50 year old neanderthals.. its more like 1975 than 2005….

the very fact that I am making a post like this makes me sound to many other blokes like an “old fashioned 1980s sandal-wearing hippy” (which I am not!)

I appreciate that it will be difficult for girls to get rid of these scum (particularly if they have equally misogynistic friends who will support the bloke involved) and often they make the girls dependent on drugs and/or housing etc (relationship power games) but the only way they girls and women can avoid this is by realising this is wrong, and if need be actually making the call to social services, cops or crimestoppers.

I am personally shocked at the amount of domestic violence that occurs amongst young couples (particularly those on the rave scene, usually midweek when comedowns kick in) and some of the more harrowing threads I have seen on this and other boards, and feel that something must be done.

People of all genders must realise this is never acceptable, if it happens that relationship should not continue regardless and that even if you have an alternative lifestyle the only option may be to engage with the traditional authorities..

Otherwise there is a serious danger that the clock is being turned back and the small progressive gains (which are nowhere near enough) made in the 1980s with regard to gender equality are actually being reversed..

incidentally blokes are often just as much also scared and intimidated into covering up for violent criminals – in most of these crimes there the gang only comprises one or two psycho scum but a bunch of hangers-on/onlookers as well [who often don’t realise what they have got themselves into until the cell door slams shut]

update – 1 person charged, 6 still in custody (4 males and two females)

at least cops are actually doing what they are supposed to be doing…

I hope this is sorted out as well as it can be by the authorities and doesn’t lead to repercussions in my city this summer…. I refuse to stand back and just watch my current manor become like the places my family left because they saw crime and violence spiral out of control…

A 21-year-old man has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Mary-Ann Leneghan in Reading. Jamaile Morally from Balham in south London is also charged with the attempted murder and rape of Mary-Ann’s friend and the abduction of both girls.

Mary-Ann’s body was found in Prospect Park on Saturday. Her 18-year-old friend was shot after both girls were allegedly abducted.

Mr Morally was remanded in custody after appearing in court on Saturday.

    Shot and stabbed

Det Supt Mark Warwick said: “Jamaile Morally was remanded in custody until 19 May when he will appear before Reading Crown Court.

“Four men remain in custody after being arrested in recent days in connection with the murder.

“Two women, arrested in London in the early hours of Friday morning on suspicion of assisting offenders, remain in custody.”

I gather u are talking about the girl that was found in prospect park? A place where I played as a kid!
Anyhow what I dont get is how 6 people ( apparently so) can all have the same psycotic frame of mind!! I mean of coarse u couden’t forgive one person for such a violent act of crime, but some how you would be able to understand that, perhaps he/she was severely mentally unstable. But 6, 6 people its beyond me!! what a world!

sorry I only read ur first post didn’t get that far!!

although I never met her, this girl was well-known to many friends of mine and was into her parties and raves as welll…

they played a tune for her on one of the local pirate stations last night…

    Mourners pay respects to Mary-Ann
The family and friends of murdered teenager Mary-Ann Lenaghan have paid their tributes at her funeral. More than 400 people packed into Reading’s Christ Church to say goodbye to the 16-year-old, whose alleged abduction and murder shocked the town.

A further 150 people who could not fit into the church listened to the service via a loudspeaker outside.

Some of her favourite songs were played and two close friends gave a reading. She was buried in a private service.

One of the teenager’s favourite songs – Lonely by Akon – was played as her coffin was carried into the church by family members.

Mary-Ann was found dead from a stab wound in Prospect Park in Reading on 7 May. Her 18-year-old friend was shot in the head with an airgun, but survived.

The teenager’s death prompted an outpouring of grief through the town, with hundreds of tributes laid in Prospect Park.

She had been due to sit her GCSE exams just weeks after she was killed.

An appeal fund was also set up last month to help Mary-Ann’s family, after they were inundated with offers of help and support.

Six men are charged with the murder and kidnap of the teenager and the kidnap and attempted murder of her friend.

They are due to appear at Reading Crown Court on 11 August for a plea hearing.
