when I saw the thumbnail of the local newspaper; I thought at first this was people on SJ pissing around with photoshop to make a fake newspaper headline for jokes.

Was actually shocked to see this was true (crime reporting of this nature, particularly when it names names has to be accurate or the paper can be sued).

OK fair enough there are people selling drugs where raves happen; but in years of raving since 1991 including often ropey parts of London; I have never heard of a pistol being brought to an outdoor rave (apart from UKG ones but I don’t go to those!)

Worst of all these lads do not come across particularly as “nutters” or “hardened criminals”; they just seem like lads who through selling a bit of drugs have got sucked into the “gangsta” lifestyle.

But FFS; a gun loaded with hollowpoints? in Britain?

even if you live in a country where guns are allowed having loaded firearms around where people are taking psychoative drugs is still out of order..

WTF is happening to raves today?

Not only are they in serious shit (they are gonna spend a chunk of their youth in the can now) they have brought it on top for everyone – cops can now justify armed police being increasingly used to deal with raves (they are often on standby anyway)

    Quote:
11:00 – 31 May 2006 Three men have been charged after police seized an estimated £20,000 of drugs and two guns following an illegal rave at a disused Westcountry airfield.

Ryan Haynes, 24, William Hunt, 25, and one other man, 21, appeared in court yesterday charged with possession of drugs with intent to supply. The drugs were amphetamines, ecstasy tablets and Ketamine, a horse tranquilliser used as a recreational drug.

The men also face two charges of possession of guns and one of possession of ammunition.

The charges relate to a car stopped at Wadebridge at 5.30am on Monday morning, which was found to contain two handguns and quantity of explosive “dum-dum” ammunition – hollow-tipped bullets designed to explode on impact, causing maximum damage. One of the handguns was found to be loaded at the time.

Police also recovered 2,000 ecstasy tablets and 2kg of amphetamines.

The search was carried out by police keeping an eye on activity around Davidstow Airfield in North Cornwall. Over the bank holiday weekend, about 5,000 people descended on the area for an illegal rave.

Mr Hunt and one other man are both from Kingston, Surrey. Both appeared in the dock wearing hooded tops, speaking only to tell the court their personal details.

One man is a student at Kingston University, while the dreadlocked Mr Hunt said he was a musician and ran a record label, while being a full-time carer for a family member. Mr Haynes is from Shamley Green, near Guildford in Surrey. He is unemployed. None of the three made any plea to the court, and they were all remanded in custody at Bodmin Magistrates Court until a hearing at Truro Crown Court on June 6.

Police yesterday revealed they had arrested 12 men in connection with the rave. Five of them, a 61-year-old man from Hertfordshire, a 27-year-old from Swansea, South Wales, a 29-year-old from Hay-on-Wye, Powys, a 31-year-old man from Herefordshire and a 23-year-old from an unknown location, were all arrested on suspicion of organising or managing unlicensed public entertainment and were last night at Launceston police station.

An 18-year-old man from Gloucestershire was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug with intent to supply and a 16-year-old boy from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified. Both were in custody last night

A 27-year-old man from Bristol was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop while driving. He has been released on police bail until July 10. A 34-year-old man from Leicestershire was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and released on police bail until June 19.

A 24-year-old man from Newquay and a 24-year-old man from St Austell were both arrested on suspicion of theft of a granite water trough and later cautioned. A 24-year-old man was arrested on a prior warrant and was last night in custody at Launceston.

A 17-year-old man from Gloucestershire was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug but was released without charge.

people on SJ say they actually know one of the lads

and lets face it; this place is the middle of fucking nowhere, its not the area you drive around normally.

why would people from Surrey go all the way up there to pick up (and increase the risk of being caught?) when there are coasts and drop off points the other end of the country?

Especially with all the cameras about and random stop checks that any young driver is at risk of being caught up in. To carry a stack of drugs and two guns across the UK like that is a suicide mission and most gangsters are more intelligent than that.

I’d agree with you they aren’t the usual free party type and probably more UKG heads (and its possible they could have heard of the rave on the off chance and wanted to shift stuff there)

You are probably thinking “they aren’t the type” because you are a decent chap who doesn’t like violence; but lots of people “latch on” to raves to make money (rather than party) or find the rude boy/fighting/violence mentality really seductive. I’ve seen former friends of mine (who used to go raving) get sucked in down that route

The damage is already done anyway; who are the rest of society gonna believe. The police, or a bunch of drug users?

fair nuff but, is any one really stupid enough to leave a rave, probably the biggest of the year, with the most attention from pigs with 2000 lil uns and 2kilos of ket

They were asking to get caught, leaving at 5am with all that shit, I would have shit it.

But then, I wouldn’t be stupid enough to take that with me!

    And I left @ 8pm on sunday night 🙂

lets all just hang on to the happy memories we have of raving as more and more people seem to be fucking it all up for everyone else. By the time i can next go to a rave, i doubt it will be possible without risking far too much.

Saying this the fact that raves are unliscenced, means anyone is avaliable to attend and that means that they can become very dangerous places if the wrong type do decide to pay a visit…..i dont know what the answer is, i wish i did. Im just thankful ive never had any grief at any rave ive been to, and hope that there can be a brighter future for us all

thats not that much of a stash in todays terms and the amount people cane; they could easily have started out with way more….

the guns were way more stupid though; particularly when even soldiers can’t use hollowpoints – ironically civillians outside UK and cops can use them – until the recent “shoot to kill” policy UK armed cops did not use them – and the only Government officers in this country who did use such weapons are Defra vets (in case they have to shoot a mad cow!)

when you start doing crime and getting away with it its easy to start thinking you are invincible and get foolhardy/careless..
