    their intelligence is shockingly bad

Prosecution plan as rave winds down in Pembrokeshire

A rave which attracted up to 2,500 people to a clifftop in Pembrokeshire over the weekend is winding down, say police.

Officers began blocking roads to the site near Dale on Sunday to contain the flow of revellers, but did not attempt to break up the gathering.

Council officials said they planned to gather information on the organisers with the intention of prosecuting them.

But a BBC correspondent at the event said it was unclear who organised it.

Party-goers said they intended to clean the site before leaving.

One participant told BBC Wales: “People want to do it the right way.

“No-one wants to upset anyone, but at the end of the day the police are shutting down every single legal event.

“People want to have a party. No-one wants any trouble. People are here just to have a good time.”

One young woman said they would make sure to clean up after themselves, adding:

“I know there are other parties that don’t do that, but we’re not like that.”

She stressed the event was not about drug use.

“Obviously we like to have a little drink, but no drugs,” she said.

“We’re all friends and we like to meet up and have a good time. The club scene has changed; it’s very expensive, it’s very difficult to get into certain clubs and we don’t like that.

“We can come out here in the beautiful countryside, and the sunshine, and have a good time.”

There are no facilities at the rave site, including an absence of toilets.

Local publicans were said to be unhappy about the roadblocks which had kept customers away on a sunny weekend.

However Mark Elliott, head of public protection at Pembrokeshire council, said the priority of the police and local authority had to be ensuring public safety.

The council first had intelligence about the event late on Friday.

He said following a similar event near Marloes a few years ago, the council had set up a spontaneous event protocol in conjunction with the police and national park authority, adding that “nine out of 10” attempts to hold illegal gatherings had been thwarted.

They had not succeeded this time, but said they had managed to turn away large numbers heading to the site since it had begun.

“Many laws are being broken, the main one being [the] Licensing Act 2003.

“If these organisers want to go about it correctly and … [have] all the facilities in place, then we could work with them,” he said.

Mr Elliott added that the council was gathering information on the organisers with a view to seeking a prosecution.

from the questions they were asking on the way out, I think they might be serious about that.

rigs have been confiscated, and people have been sent down befroe

yea it happened a few years back at wentwood

I was there in 07 and it seemed it was the English cops rather than the heddlu who wanted to go in heavy and confiscate rigs, as much as a reprisal for raves held in England.

The presence of an English police spotter plane as well as the dyfed-powys heddlucopter is a bit ominous, especially as it would have had to travel some considerable distance. Fixed wing aircraft are used when cops want to fly over an area slower to identify as much as possible.

maybe it was just a plane? saw a few flying about on sunday

what can the plane do the helicopter cant? the plane wasn’t over very long, could have been the local flying school taking an interest at I spose. But it did fly round and round the site before going back the way it had come

it goes slower and is less noisy obvious / so the camera could be used to get better footage of numberplates and distinctive vehicles some Air Support Units have both a heli and the fixed wing aircraft (GMP does for instance).

I suspect the police / council operation isn’t to confiscate the rigs as they know from what happens in other regions that it wil result in more drugs being sold to replace them, but to find individuals involved in putting on the rave and bring them before Court. Even if they just go up before the beak and don’t get sent down, the hassle and cost of someone from the other side of England having to repeatedly go back to Wales to answer bail is going to be fairly offputting.

according to SJ they are taking the rigs, dunno how true that is though. Poor rigs 🙁

they might pick off as many of the Welsh ones as possible as a divide and conquer thing, the powers that be aren’t going to let themselves be shown up as a bunch of ffŵls who lost control… (possible they have arranged with other forces for the storage space its a lot of logistics and paperwork!)

ah well, I guess the rigs know what they are doing.

so do the cops unfortunately… and the locals, who have realised the East of the UK is now devoid of raves. There were some locals angered at the rave because the heddlu roadblocks led to their pub also being blocked off and them losing loads of business….When that Tory MP tried to beef up the CJA it wasn’t just him what signed the proposed Bill but Welsh MP’s as well including labour and Lib Dem ones (Although TBH his law is unnecessary anyway as cops have enough power to seize kit as it it…)
