to be fair this is actually a well written, factual and pragmatic report from the cops and NHS…. I think the frontline authorities are actually getting smarter in the UK and accepting that a determined minority will do drugs whether or not anyone else agrees with it, and their job is as much to reduce harm as to enforce laws..
North Wales Police and the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are warning the local community following the recent death and serious illness of two young men from Gwynedd thought to have taken the illegal drug ‘Green Apples’.
DCI Andrew Williams at Caernarfon said “Approximately two weeks ago a 19 year old young man from Bangor was admitted to Intensive Care in Ysbyty Gwynedd after he had taken controlled drugs. He was extremely ill but fortunately recovered. This last weekend a 19 year old man from Llangefni was admitted to Ysbyty Gwynedd from an address in Holyhead after suspected drug use. Unfortunately he did not recover and passed away on the afternoon of Saturday 2nd February.”
“At this time we are not treating the deaths as suspicious but they are ‘unexplained’ and therefore an investigation will take place to ascertain the exact cause of death. From our initial enquiries there appears to be a link in that we understand both young men took the drug ‘Green Apples’ which information suggests is a form of MDMA (Ecstasy), albeit work is on-going to confirm this.”
“The investigation, which will include a post mortem examination, detailed forensic enquiries and toxicology tests, is on going and a full report will be submitted to HM Coroner for North West Wales.
However at this time I would strongly urge those who supply or use ‘Green Apples’ in particular to think hard about what they are doing and to stop immediately.”
Sounds bad to me, but I would think that whatever’s in them pills ain’t MDMA, more likely PMA or something like that I reckon.
Most likely PMA or another dangerous ampfetamine derivative. It’s sad that people are making pills like these man.. do people genuinely take them for PMA and then they get missold somewhere along the line as MDMA? Bad synthesis? Who knows..

please fill me in, wtf is PMA?
Erowid will explain it better then I can – Erowid PMA (ParaMethoxyAmphetamine) Vault
It looks like someone far higher up the chain has ended up with kilos of this PMA and doesn’t want to lose the money they paid for it and it gets punted out to smaller level dealers in low income areas where clearly no one, dealers or users alike gives a shit about what exactly is in these pills and thinks that is “too much effort / nerdy ” to test them.
Its not even that difficult to make a testing kit FFS, the chemicals are found in most high school and university laboratories and though risky they need not be stored in large quantity and the solution can have many other uses than just testing drugs.
What is interesting is that I have just been through a load of searches of the Dutch news and harm reduction sites and there have not been incidents from these pills for about a year (the last people caught selling them got prison which is normally rare for low level dealing), so a combination of the “testing culture” and a more sensible attitude to drugs at user level is clearly keeping people fairly safe.

I think it’s because they’re a cheaper option mate. I know someone who used to be quite a major player in the drugs market and he used to do 3 different batches of E’s, each with different amounts of MDMA in them. 90% of the people that he dealt with in the UK wanted the cheapest ones & obviously they had the least amount of MDMA in them. This is typical of the cheap cunts in this country and would also indicate that if there was a cheaper option available that they could make the same amount of money from, then they’d take it in a heartbeat, regardless of whether they contained MDMA or not.
I hate the UK for that – we seem to always want the cheaper option regardless of the ill effects. Personally, i’m all about quality even if that means paying a higher price.
People who take pills aswell when they have no idea of their quality yet they still don’t test them, it’s just stupid and they’re playing russian roulette with their own lives. Seriously though when stuff like this happens, and with them other pills up north or wherever it was, and the pink mcdonalds last year I think people would’ve got the message that pills really aren’t safe anymore..

We can’t even blame the “feds / government ” as pill testing kits are perfectly legal here (more so than pills themselves!), and even if it were all legal some bugger would try to make a extra profit, consider the tesco horseburger fiasco. (At least in Holland they would (and do) tell you your burger is 20% horse) [1] – Perhaps the harsh reality is Dutch kids have more belief in themselves and hope for the future and want to still be alive after the weekend…
[1]
English person in horeca : Did you say 20%? Pardon?
Dutch waiter : yes, paarden :laugh_at:
I guess so, I just don’t get the mentality of people who sell pills as MDMA pills when in fact they are PMA and thus putting many lives in danger, It’s incredibly selfish and money driven but I guess that’s capitalism and prohibition for you.
I never did get the whole horseburger scandal, personally I’ve eaten those burgers and thought they were quite nice, many countries eat horse too, I just don’t see the problem..

in both cases its just the excesses of capitalism TBH, when it makes people dishonest. pills are controlled drugs, but (other than the EU food safety rules) there is no law against eating horsemeat in Blighty. It is however illegal to market it as something else in order to mislead people.

The problem comes with the misrepresentation mate. As GL said, it’s a similar scenario to the horse burger thing. The way we feel about pills that actually contain MDMA in comparison to those that don’t is the same way that some people feel about food, especially if they think they’re eating Daisy the Cow and it turns out they’ve been eating Red Rum instead!
Yeah it’s a fair enough point I guess, but to be honest they’re saying “HORSE DNA” I mean how much % is in the burger? To me DNA implies a very very minute amount and it just seems pathetic.
the issue is the labelling and honesty.
The burger could be 100% horse and legally sold across most of Europe if it said horseburger /paardhamburger / hamburger de cheval on the labelling. I can’t remember what I did with the link (though I did post it here) some Dutch catering supplier was selling these meatballs in batter and openly said it was 20% horsemeat on the ingredients list. but if someone has been up 12 hours dancing on pills and is now on the comedown and hungry they aren’t going to be fussy eaters..
Scarey, but as you say GL, well written harm reduction
I say scarey especially as (old school) green apples were always fantastic
