I thought facebook invites only went to “friends”? Clearly this “private social network” has somehow been infiltrated…
A posting on social networking site Facebook helped police and council officers thwart an illegal rave in Pembrokeshire over the weekend.
Messages inviting people to Whitesands 2008 branded an “erotic party” and “exodus of the city dweller”, were flying around Facebook. Around 500 people were expected to attend.
But the massive popularity of of the website backfired when the messages were picked up by Dyfed-Powys Police and Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC).

Just shows the filth are watching the airwaves!! what if you advertised a non existent rave somewhere really on one side of a county and then held the real party on the other side of said county. It would have to be a rather large county tho innit!
They’d just use the forces from the neighbouring counties to attend. Since the cops got the new digital radios they are all linked and can operate together. This is how they locked down East Anglia which is one of the largest areas of England..
(In the analogue days this was more difficult due to confusing radio channel assignments and that the sets often picked up foreign TV soundtracks in summer, so big ops were often not done for health and safety reasons – no reliable comms == danger to everyone involved)
this is the new kit they have got, more reliable than mobile phones in woods/forests (but can talk to normal phone lines), also contains built in satnav..
facebook is about as secure as a whores pants….
myspace is a hell of alot more secure but not totaly.
Word of mouth is best policy … partylines arent even safe … lets get back to basics …
I have seen dates of parties and rig names mentioned on facebook loads of times… quite shocked at how blatant some are!! :you_crazy
I think because its seen as a “private friends network” people get lulled into a false sense of security..
also they must click and invite “friends” to things without thinking – worst of all I very much doubt the heddlu or council did any “deep cover” stuff here, all that happened was one person invited someone who disagrees with raves and they grassed up the event
it could happen to any event advertised on any social network…
I think that it does just go out to the people u invite, but the thing with facebook is everones interlinked and everyone thats added to someons profile can see what they do, so if i accept an invite to “big illegal rave xx/xx/08” i could have some old work friend or something linked to me who could see and mite not approve so much..
When ever the lads locally are having a house party its always on facebook… but no one can see as its set as a private event so it does not show in your events listing, people cant see that you have accepted to go to it or that you have been invited.
it’s not like the ones the kids seem to have where half the country turn up and cause carnage
I wonder how many people just idly click the “invite your “friends” bit? All it takes is one person to send it to someone they haven’t seen for a while who is now a cop or councillor..
as I’ve mentioned in other threads ravers do get fucked off with the scene and join up to the Police or other Establishment organisations, perhaps taking their knowledge of how things work with them…

Yeah I can imagine that happening, I have sent loads of crap to people I don’t mean to.. I should be careful as I have a load of people from work including two of my managers as friends on facebook
Even my mum doesn’t use facebook (although my sister and lots of our extended family in Malaysia do) as she thinks its too much of a privacy risk and hassle.. :laugh_at: (she does use the internet regularly and is in her 60s)
i heard that facebook and my space were set up by the govement or heavly funded for data mineing the idear was to play them of against each outher and to see witch was more populer
i could be wrong though
bit of a conspiracy theory, but with a certain amount of truth
I’m not sure about murdochspace (although Rupert Murdoch is no libertarian, deep down he values authority and religion) but one of the main backers of facebook is part of another company which is also involved in a data-gathering project for the CIA.

FB is IMO more of a risk than murdochspace because its pitched at “normal” people including parents, bosses etc rather than the more alternative crowd..
That said, the biggest risk is from the local bobby, and/or someone you add as a “friend” who doesn’t agree 100% with your lifestyle.
Joking?
