  • Does anyone know what the stuff currently being sold in England as MDMA powder is? It’s clearly not real MDMA, and I don’t like taking drugs which I don’t know what they are.

    Physical description: pale yellowish crystals, sometimes with a brown or slight green tinge. Smell is a bit like MDMA, but not as strong

    Price: £35-40 per gram

    Effects: euphoric, stimulant. A bit like a cross between weak cocaine and weak MDMA; I feel alert and cheerful, with an increased sex drive, but do not get the intense rushes I do from the amphetamine family. Quite similar to mephedrone.

    Differences from real MDMA: euphoric/ stimulant effects much weaker (by a factor of 3 or more), does not give the “love rush” so characteristic of the real thing (or the empathy and desire for physical contact), does not give the intense enjoyment of music (although it does make it better), hurts less to snort, does not cause gurning or chewing

    Comedown: can sleep quite soon after taking it (if snorted), almost no comedown when taken in small quantities, in large quantities has a range of odd effects: tension in the perineum area, jitteriness and inability to sit still, increased sexual arousal (sometimes need for orgasm can be quite intense), increased enjoyment of music and desire to dance (yes, these are after-effects, experienced for up to a week afterwards), restlessness and difficulty sleeping, occasional depressive feelings but very mild and sporadic compared to the comedown from a large quantity of real MDMA, occasional spasms which feel like an electrical discharge inside the body

    Addictiveness: can cause strong desires to keep taking it while on it (similar to mephedrone or cocaine) and for a day or so after stopping; but no actual withdrawal symptoms that I’ve experienced. Once I’ve been off it for a day or so, I don’t feel any special cravings for it.

    So, can anybody tell me what this stuff actually is?

    Really impossible to tell what it is from any description. The only way would be to get it proper lab tested, i woudln’t mess around with an unknown chemical with such side effects

    I’m wondering if it might be a piperazine like BZP? The effects are similar to those listed on wikipedia, but I’ve never knowingly taken it, so I don’t know how it compares to other drugs

    Look, I’m not saying I could identify every drug I’ve ever taken from a description, but there are lots with highly specific characteristics or sets of characteristics which could allow, if not an absolutely certain identification, a highly confident one, or at the very least identification as part of a group. Ecstasy, cocaine, LSD, magic mushrooms, cannabis and speed for example all have highly characteristic effects. Do you not find that?

    Well, as far as I know I’ve only taken two of them. Those two I could easily tell apart from a detailed description.

    There are indeed many thousands of drugs out there. However, about 1% of those account for about 99% of the recreational drugs taken, in my experience. Since this drug is in common use in the UK at the moment, I thought there was a fair chance someone might be able to have an educated guess at what it is.

    Did you miss the part where I said “I’m not saying I could identify every drug I’ve ever taken from a description”?

    there are so many different chems out there alot of them with very similar effects so its pretty hard to identify what a substance is. Hell, most likely a mix of shitty stimulants which will do more bad then good
