I did – and whilst ravers have been slightly better behaved at raves “back in the day” with regard to not trashing/vandalising venues as much, there was a lot of things I remember happening I’m not exactly proud of today – there was a recession then and drugs were expensive, leading to a culture of surviving by theft (shoplifting and even house burglary) as well as people moving very quick from pills to smack and crack (ketamine curiously wasn’t as popular till the late 90s)

i think the “extacy boom” hadn’t properly run it’s corse till late 90’s early 2000’s which is when ket started taking over as a harder? substatute (more halusonagenic with less short term reprisals)
i’m only 23 but have noticed the same things as you .. i started going raving when i was about 13/14 in the late 90’s (99 iirc)and even from then have noticed a change in ethos with the people i meet at raves! alltho E had a big part in rave culture back then (and way b4) it didn’t seem to have such a detrimental effect (on it’s own) as some drugs of choice now days, alltho it could lead to heaver drug use (i didn’t notice this at the time as i was still young and nieve – but i guess my natural progression of “experimentation” speaks for it’s self as i imagin it will do with many others) things now days seem to be actualy GEARED TOWARDS trashing things and generaly being wankers .. when back then it was just a by-product!

what I remember from the 90s is none of us were angels and people sometimes did stupid impulsive things (including criminal and anti-social behaviour) midweek during the comedown – it was still wrong and there was no excuse for it (hence the backlash), but I have noticed that its become part of the actual rave.

Even when mates of mine have got legal venues sorted some youths attend with the intention of smashing up parts of the venue and/or fighting, and some even call themselves “ravers” and stalk the party crews to cause hassle (as opposed to local townies just wandering in off the streets).

it’s a misconseption of the term “raver” they have picked up on the mistakes of the past raves and idolised them .. kinda like young people might idolise a rapper who premotes violance just cos they are poor and need to buss a cap in yo ass fo G’s to get doe to buy crack cos they can’t handle the life in da hood :laugh_at:

yep I agree with this – it started in the garage / grime / urban scene about 2001 when they started calling there events “raves”, and the UKG scene actually chose to abandon the more pleasant bits of the electronic dance music culture and pick the path of violence and anger – then they wonder why feds try to lock things down with form 696…

i am from the garage era .. i started off listening to vocal garage when garage used to be the offspring from oldskool (apart from sl2 on a ragga tip which i danced around my living room to when i was 6 i think >.< ) songs like "love bug" were just releaced in garage format ect. and things used to be nice and fluffy then .. even in that sceen!(but in the essence no comparison to the rave sceen). i actualy stoped listening to garage because of the transision to grime .. similaly to how i have stoped listening to d+b so much now due to the conatations it carries and the crowd it attracts … theese are once what might be considered as new forms of art .. that have now been tainted by people getting too caught up in the "dark" aspect of the music and actualy taking on that form if not like that allready …

oh and wiley was pesant at a few later slammin vinyl raves at bagleys in the garage room that everyone avoided like tha plauge … i don’t know if you have ever been to bagleys … but that place is a fucking sweat box … once in the “chillout” room (a fucking cave with an arched concreat cealing) i was skining up a spliff back when i used to smoke weed and a big drip of sweat fell off the celing (and this was common place) and took out the bigger and better end of my spliff … screwing!!!! … what was really funny tho was that this chillout room (and most of the last/actualy underground rooms of bagleys) was a compleat shit hole and people were still dancing around the garage room with “nice shirts” and you could even smell the aftershave as you walked through it to get down staris to the hardcore room :laugh_at:

i was a lickle older than that, i think tthe first one i went to was in 93 , it was in a feid near knutsford in cheshire somewhere – i was visiting a mate who was at the poly in crewe and as al the clubs were shite we went raving instead. cant remener a lot about it as i was off my cake for the whole time

After that i was bang into the scene – you and me were probably at some of the same parties as i used to do the ridgeway a lot in the late 90s and early 00s – there were some phat scenes up arround the knob until whois (darren ? , david ? , damien ? , summat beginining with d anyway) got asbo’d

I here what you are saying about raves and crime – i had a decent job so i didnnt need to gaet lairy for money , but my mate andy used to knock off payphones, 2 concrete blocks and a carjack – i’m sure you knosw the score – to fund his raving.

difference is we didnt start shit at parties – well appart from fighting if OB turned up – we certaainly didnt do stupid shite like spike live stock and smashing up tractors. Thats just asking for it all to come on top next time.

I reckon its to do with kids mixing their drugs , and taking weird shit – pills never made me want to trash shit, nor shrooms and herb , but some of the shit out there today is made from seriously nastty chemials and i reckon it just fucks up some peoples heads and makes them act like total wankers, corse some of them were probs total wankers to start with.

mate of mine went to a party a few weeks back and got his car trashed and graffed while he was raving – pickking on fellow ravers stuff :hopeless: :you_crazy that shit is totally not right
