Woohoo the site is working again. Okay bud. It’s in no way a technical talk but it’s nice to see how much progress has been achieved and continues to be achieved these days.

Yep, gave my print copies of TiHKAL and PiHKAL to a substance abuse counselor, hopefully they can use it in their work. If they ever get rid of the Schedule 1 gag order research will take off in America.

I’ve never read the first half of either PIHKAL or TIHKAL, just perused the publicly available chemistry section freely available on EROWID. I’ve always been interested in what they planned for the 3rd book which was hinted at in some of their Q&A sessions which are on youtube.

I would assume that the 3rd book would have been novel compounds and maybe similar to the movie Dirty Pictures, I really have no idea though, I don’t think he was working with a 3rd family of compounds for psychedelic experience.

The Shulgin Index is like $600, not a chemist but I bet it is a hell of a reference material.

The first half of Tihkal and Pihkal are mostly autobiographical.

He did talk at seminars about the 3rd book being called QIHKAL, Q standing for quinolines but apparently Ann didn’t like this. Shulgin did produce another book called the simple plant isoquinolines though.. He did produce a 3rd book in conjunction with 2 others though, the Shulgin Index volume 1. A greatly extended version of PIHKAL with no commentary just synthesis instructions for few hundred phenethylamines. The index part 2 was going to be about the tryptamines but sadly he passed before it was complete.

Shulgin ran out of time like most people do, he was a treasure though. His wife has had some financial difficulties since his passing, I wonder if she’d put out QiHKAL if a draft was ready.

He did indeed run out of time but while alive put out a staggering amount of work. It was very sad that healthcare in the USA costs so much but I am certain people contributed hugely toward the cost of his care (lets not forget that when his lab was raided and he was forced to give back his research license a well as being fined $25,000, request for funds was put out and $40,000 was raised in 6 days……).

The only book I know was being actively worked on was the Shulgin Index volume 2, the extended chemistry from TIHKAL. Whether that will ever see the light of dy though is anyone’s guess.
