It was needed for America. For the past 8 years you’ve lost so much respect worldwide with your nationalistic ideas and gun-ho foreign policy, not to mention your backward social ideas on issues such as abortion, gay marriage, capital punishment… and you still have to pay for basic fucking health care.

Obama has certain socialist ideals, but is far from an out-and-out socialist. It has already been proven that capitalism benefits extremely few and has a disgusting effect on many across the world. But hey, that’s OK when you can drive your massive gas-guzzling fucking hummers, ain’t it?

You are in so much debt that your country as a super-power is pretty much fucking doomed, anyway.

I don’t mind the debate so much as the way it was getting ugly……I do love a challenge. raaa

Yes we’ll have to just hold our own views…..not even gonna go into the whole ‘global warming’ thing!

Note – ‘change’ can be change in either direction!!!!!

Well it does state it pretty clearly in the Bible – which IS what our Founding Fathers for the most part believed…….not talking about the cap punishment part. And I am perfectly happy to pay for my health care – I do not expect welfare handouts!

ACTUALLY your founding fathers originally intended the US to be a secular state- i.e. free from religious opression:

Thomas Jefferson made an interpretation of the 1st Amendment to his January 1st, 1802 letter to the Committee of the Danbury Baptist Association calling it a “wall of separation between church and State.” Madison had also written that “Strongly guarded. . . is the separation between religion and government in the Constitution of the United States.” There existed little controversy about this interpretation from our Founding Fathers.

This is more like it- proper debate. You raise a point, then we take it apart like rational adults.

true, ours is fairer, because taxes obviously vary to income or housing value etc. but the nhs is spread out equally to all by distributing everyone’s taxes

i believe in the us you get it if you have the spare cash and if not well, you don’t deserve healthcare… :you_crazy

I’m afraid my husband is more well-versed on all the historical facts….. there’s something about that quote about the sep. of church & state…..basically what he read was that it NEVER stated there was ato be such a thing….I don’t have the quote/book here – have to ask my hubby when he gets home. I know this seems like a cop-out, but it’s not – sorry.

to not have the state seperate from all religion is so fucking idiotic it’s unbelievable. to seperate the two is a basic safeguard to prevent predujice and promote fairness!

Here there are ‘county hospitals’ where you pay what you can – and if you can’t pay, they HAVE to write it off. I’ve actually had to use the system a few times while getting on my feet. We don’t NEED the whole system to be changed – there’s already free healthcare in place for those who need it!!!!

aah, ur an expert on the climate as well, ha ha… Why is it that people think that they have seen somethin, that people who spend there workin lives studying a subject haven’t.

its a strawman argument ur using, nobody said that the climate only goes one way, u only has to look at the historical record. do u think climatologists think the climate only started yesterday? thats just plain wrong… if ur gonna pontificate on climate, u need to educate urself first.

hurrah, for obama, by the way, maybe the US will finally stand up and be counted on this one, rather than suppressing their scientists and trying to sabotage the rest of the worlds efforts to dig ourselves out of the shit we are in!

one of the biggest ironies is that Obama is a Christian and regular churchgoer himself. Its one of the “black” churches (like where those dudes in that comedy drum and bass video come from) and has been viewed as controversial, but has good relations with a “white” church in chicago but the congregations tend to be separate (I thought you guys didn’t still have segregation? :you_crazy)

I wonder if those who didn’t vote for him and claim to be Christians will leave the man and his family to worship in peace, or will he have to be guarded by loads of cops/feds simply for his own safety?

Nope that was me that mentioned the climate. Lets not go into that now (as I have spent my working life studying it!). Anyway, amyberthelet believes the earth is only 6000 years old, so the whole ‘climate record’ thing won’t wash………

i thought she was sayin that the climate could change in either direction, therefore… its an oft repeated argument of those who think its all made up, as i’m sure u know. now i’m gonna have to go back and read the thread properly… bugger! :yakk:

Well, I don’t buy it that Obama knew nothing about Rev Wright’s racism – blacks can be racist too! The pastor said GD America in CHURCH!!!!! Since when is THAT being Christian???? And I read someplace that Obama’s family was Unitarian-Universalist…..that is not considered a true Christian church as it welcomes even ATHEISTS.
