I keep forgetting (unless upstairs where the CET clock is) the offset and thinking “damn thats early”, but until the fucking yanks got into all our industries, it was not uncommon on Friday afternoon in England to drink beer throughout the day – you started off with mild ale and it got stronger through the evening (after work was finished) till you were crawling in the gutter. This was a hangover from the days when drinking city water would make you even worse as we dumped the contents of the loo into the water upstream of the tidal points and not downstream. this practice persisted into the 1970s in some areas :yakk: – so a hangover was better than chlolera.
As I also live in a maritime area, I go by the tradition you “should not drink until the sun is above the yard arm”. (This is in fact around 11:00 UTC in most coastal areas)
